TuDiabetes - A Community for People Touched by Diabetes

Just so You'all know, I am officially diabetic as of Friday evening May 1st at about 5:30.pm. I gave away my Pancreas, Gall Bladder, Spleen, Deodenum, and a small bit of the stomach. It cured me of my Islet Cell Tumors which actually were found to be gastrinomas and spread to the duodenum. I'm at Day 4 safter surgey and doing well. Already on solid foods and doing shots.

David, Welcome to TuDiabetes & being an "Other" type diabetic. I'm one of the seven members of the Orphan Diabetics group. As I make TuDiabetes part of my lifestyle as a new diabetic (diabetic effective APR '08), I'm feeling more in control of my blood sugar with the help of other members with similar issues and, especially, ones who have already been-there-done-that. I gave away parts of my angry pancreas during an 8-hr. operation. I'm looking forward to "seeing" how my "tamed" (I hope) pancreas is doing around JUL, the 1-yr. anniversary of my surgery. I read somewhere that the pancreas is like a snifter full of nitroglycerin, it's something you don't want to mess with. David, take care of yourself. As you probably know: You have months of healing in front of you. Open surgery isn't like fracturing a bone, where it's healed in 6-wks.; I was weakened for over 6-mos. Again, take care of yourself and I hope to "see" you around at TuDiabetes, Lucy
