I have been type one for 53 years this last summer. I never had a problem with anything after I told the first endo, educator nurse, and dietitian I saw in 1969 to get lost. I still inject pork insulin like I was in 1959 and have no adverse reactions or problems and I test maybe twice a month at the most. Both the eye surgeon and kidney specialist told me not to come back many years ago. After all these years I have it figured out and even my primary care doctor never advises me because I consistently hand over 5.5 A1cs.

I believe JohnBen passed away since this post, Don. Not that he can't still inspire us to discussion!
Permalink Reply by Josephine A Ni Dhomhnaill on November 7, 2012 at 3:48am Ugh! I hate it when I am offline for a few years. So sorry to hear of Johnben's passing (if true.) Many enjoyable conversations and experiences have been shared over the years and the diabetic community will miss his inspirational stories and conversation. He was a pillar to our community and is sadly missed.
Rest well, Johnben.
