Byetta should NOT be a primary medication for treating PCOS. The primary medication for treating PCOS should be Clomid, or other anti-androgen medications. If you already have Diabetes, and have already used Metmorfin and ran your course with it, than Byetta might be an option for you... BUT, Byetta is a dangerous medication, and quite frankly, I would not use it if you did not have to use it for Diabetes. The effectiveness of Byetta on PCOS is still a mix, and it would primarily be from only dealing with the insulin resistance which is merely a SYMPTOM of the PCOS. Without anti-androgens, you will still be hyperinsulinemic, and and hyperinsulinemia without insulin resistance often results in lows. Have you had any lows with the Byetta? Do you take anything else, such as birth control pills? Byetta is also a dangerous medication for any women who may be trying to conceive.

I saw that you are Pre-Diabetic... I would NOT recommend Byetta for a Pre-Diabetic, with PCOS, in any way, shape or form. I would recommend Clomid, Birth Control Pills, or Metmorfin. But NOT Byetta. That medication is for Diabetics who've already lost some control... Not for people just starting out... and especially, when your insulin resistance is due to a hormonal imbalance, such as PCOS. Find an infertility doctor/gynecologist.

There is a PCOS team here that you might look to join and talk to the member of that team - but in general I've never heard of Byetta being used to treat PCOS used to treat someone who is a type 2 diabetic yes, but not PCOS by itself.

Thanks for the info, I already took MET, I'm not planning to get pregnant soon because the over weight, my numbers in the mornings have increase to 125 and honestly I'm just so tired of all the medicines and treatments because don't work!!! My personality change so much, from be happy to be so angry without of reason. I just had an insulin resistance exam and one of the numbers was 160 and according with my Endo. that's insulin resistance, please look at this web: http://www.druglib.com/trial/51/NCT00344851.html maybe will be another option.

Byetta doesn't low to much my sugar, I also have to say that I haven't experience any hypoglycemia (lower sugar levels) since I started it, I used to get hypo when I work out and I haven't get one since I started. I also take birth control pills and 500 Met per day. The only side effects have been nausea (not to bad) and a little headache, that is why I’m interesting in know if is there somebody who is taking the same risk.

The other thing is that women with PCOS need to greatly lower their carbohydrate consumption, and avoid eating too many pastas, rice, potatoes, grains, starchy vegetables. I am not sure what kind of diet you are following, but the hyperinsulinemia probably won't be turned off easily, unless you are lower carbing, and reducing the excess androgens, and it might be a need to take Clomid instead of birth control. Byetta is supposed to help with weight loss, but Byetta stimulates the body to make MORE insulin, which is not necessarily something I think a woman with PCOS wants... Combined with Metmorfin, it might be something... but I'm not sure. Controlling your blood sugars is ONE line of action, but you may need more help controlling your androgens, so that the hyperinsulinemia will not be as bad. A reproductive gynecologist could help you more with that. Some specialize more in PCOS.

I'm counting carbs under nutritionist supervision, exercise every day. My Gyn said that she will give me clomid when I want to get pregnant because after I lost 20 lbs my cycles became normal, I'm taking bith control pills because I have lots of bleeding during my periods. My main problem is over weight and ovaries, besides that I don't have excess hair, dry skin or black marks.

The ovaries... there's not much that can be done. This thing is degenerative, and has no cure. :( The weight, well. To be honest, the only thing I know that works effectively with PCOS is a low carbohydrate diet. How low depends on you, but anything lower than 100 grams a day (I eat about 75-85 a day). Nutritionists are usually vehemently against this as they are never taught anything other than high carb in school, and they just don't understand it, or refuse to even research it... but more and more doctors/endos/gyns tell their PCOS patients that they need to go on a low carb diet. There is a new forum with more information on all this, it's also a Ning community, called PCOS Challenge. They also have question and answer times with an endo that they do once a week, or once a month... something like that. You may want to give it a try, too. :) Haven't found a lot of Diabetics in there... but I use this place for my D, and the other place for my PCOS. :)
