Hi I have been a pumper for 19 months and A1c has went from 8 to 6.1 but the bad thing that came with it is 40lbs and a constant hungry feeling that is really getting on my freaking nerves.  I am about to unhook and just say forget it.  I did that with injections one time and lost 43lbs quickly and felt better too.  A little background is I have been diabetic since I was 19 and weighed 115 but I don't know unfortunetly.  I am 38 now and the weight just keeps piling on.

Eat less, use less insulin.. it's a pretty simple formula. The hard part is sticking to it! Insulin usage alone does NOT cause weight gain. Excess calories consumed does.

You might consider adding something like Symlin into the mix..it's supposed to help with the hunger, with the added bonus of limiting post-meal spikes and reducing your insulin usage.
Like I said the problem is I always feel hungry. And the formula does not always work either. And insulin is a fat storing hormone it does make you hold onto the fat you do cosume or have. I was in the past on byetta now that is food for thought about adding this in the mix though. I added the calories up that I eat and they average1200-1300 a day. But still feel hungry even right after I eat.
I don't know what you're eating, but if meals are too low in protein & high carb, hunger is constant.
1300 calories a day is not enough. You are starving yourself. ATo lose fat you do need to cut way back on your insulin usage, but starvation doesn't work. That means eating high fat.

Also control the quantity of food you eat. Too much bulk can trigger gluconeogenesis and up your insulin needs. That's more for type 1's though. We don't make amylin which supresses glucagon release when wwe eat.

Please watch Gary Taubes' recent videos "Why We Get Fat" They are very enlightening. View them in order; he builds on his argument with every vid.

Do you have many lows, Cathy and need to eat to correct( equivalent to hungry feelings ??) ? ...this would add weight gain .
I started pumping in 2001 ; had frequent, frequent lows prior( oh , those darn NPH /animal insulins ) , TDD close to 29 u
then ; was heavier by about 6 pounds , which was not a concern for me ...the weight came off and has stayed off ...fewer corrections to deal with , TTD about 22 u... I hope you will choose wisely .
Cathy,
Congratulations on the A1c. It came with a price, tho.
Treat food as if it's medicine. Take far less. In order to lose weight, I've had extended periods of 900 calories total for the day with protein each meal. No hunger.
Check your mgdl an hour pp and 3 hr pp and reset your basal. You can do it. Otherwise you may find that injections are the way to go.
Get the endo to help you.
Be careful Cathy, I gained 57 pounds in the 1990s and was diagnosed with insulin resistance. I had to take a type 2 med, along with my insulin. I cut my carb intake to 130g per day and increased my exercise to lose 34 pounds. That has helped a lot, but I will always be insulin resistant to some degree.
