Recurrent , Episodic Diplopia: My Double Vision Comes and goes......

 But my faith does'nt!!!

I have hhad recurrent diplopia . I get it about 2-3 times a year.   I have had this problem for about  8 years. It seems to concurr with my nerve spasms,as  I call them: Low back  pain, pins and needies, "tightness" in soles of feet, calves; sometimes I even get fibromyalgia-like pains at the pressure points.  I have consulted my neurologist, endogcinologist, and am  seeing my internist on Monday.I also saw a neuro-opthamologist last  June on the recommendation of my regular opthamologist and neurologist. they saw the truned in eye and the return to notmal  same eye and were concerned  Evervthinging that they testd me for gaver  noirmal  results and I have yet to get a diagnoisis. I went  toi my endos' lab yesterday to have a full gamut of lab testa; Lipid panelo, renal function, b-12, vitamin d, throif, the whole shebang. sleepy. On the recommendation of my neurologist, I   Have  returend to Lyrica today and got some releif from the nerve pain, but I am sooo sleepy ( side effect) and still have to patch my eye to see to do house work. I have not tried to drive today, but the diolpia left yesterday and I was able to go anywhere I wanted. by car, bike or foot ( LOL).

However, this morning I awoke up to two images of the TODAY show recap of  NBA finals ( I forgot to turn off the TV: GO LAKERS!!!) and it has been like this all day; no driving for me. I patch the eye  that turns inward sometimes and I can see fine; but I wasn't up to eye-patching today. I can see well enogh up close, but distance vision  ( for me that is over 3 feet, I am very near sighted; I wear contacts in public, and my Mr. Magoo spectacles inside.) is two at a time right now,

I am wondering if my  sudden return to a less-stressed life and near normal blood glucose levels since the end of the school year has anything to do with the eye and or nerve problems?  I ALWAYS seem to have these most severe bouts at  the beginning of the summer when I  have just finished the school year,  a hectic time of completing tons of paperwork, packing nd trying to work with students.

Again, I tend to get a bout of diplopia and nerve problems almost every June........Could this be related to the sudden onset of normalcy in my rountine and in  blood glucose levels? ? Last  A1c in May 2010 was 7.6,  higher than I would like , but almost typical for me at the end of the school year. I noted on my daily average on my glicometer for the past seven days has been 123, a defiinte improvment. I have not been over 118 in the past 4 days, a couple of lows, but blood glucose control has been so much better since I have not been working at my public school job...Could this cause the diplopia? Last june 2009, My  blood was tested for markers for Ms, the tests came back negtive and the neuro-optahma\ologist ruled that out; and this was later rejected by the neurlogist as not meeting the diagnostic criteria for MS. The prisms that were  prescribed for me to werar with  my glasses  last June really did not work. But then my eyes came back to normal in a few days and ai did not need them, any way. We realoy do not kknow if the nerve issues are tryly a diabetic nireopathy or a sinal stenosis, or  what? I did take  a fall  down the basement stairs, and  hurt  my back in Marchof this year. No ex-raqys taken, was diagnosed at the aurgent Care with a " contusion" put on an oxycotin like controlled subtance  pain reliever; and sent on my merry way.. That pain subsided, but my back has been a off-again on-again pain point, like my double vision.,

I know that "This too, shall pass"; It always does and I am not overly concerned.  but I wonder if I can do anything to avoid this happening again?

I know HE Is a healer, and I have always come through these bouts just fine. I am not a complainer nor a whiner... and I am confident I will be OK.

But Do keep me in your prayers , Tu friends and all.

God Bless,

Brunetta

I wish I had something (other than support) to offer.......but I don't have a clue. I'm anxious to hear what others have to say.
Have no idea, sorry. Do you get dizzy seeing double?

Thank heavens the tests were negative & hope for the same on the new ones. Frustrating & perplexing what this could be.

When I was diagnosed my vision kept changing once BG came down from soaring heights, which is common. This was due to the lens changing shape, but I didn't have double vision.

I injured my back & got great relief from acupuncture. Worked better than pain pills & didn't make me loopy.
Gerri, I went to an acupuncturist for about 2 weeks after the back injury. It did help, somewhat.. Did not continue because going there involved a longer drive than I would like after the school day. It is an alternative medicine school ( reduced rates, seen by students and a licensed supervisor)and open at all hours. I may try to squeeze in today, or this weekend. No, I do not get dizzy at all from the diplopia.

Thanks, Gerri,Brenda, and Duck, for your support and concern. I am convinced this will leave soon......

Brunetta
When I was first diagnosed my vision was blurry. When I started medication my vision totally corrected itself. For 2 whole weeks I didn't need my glasses which was weird to me. I felt normal! then when my body got use to the medications I had to start using my glasses

This seems to be stress related. Our bodies tend to react to stressful situation differently then to couple it with diabetes doesnt help. I am sure you are stressed during the middle of the school year---do see any problems during that time? Have you tested your BS while you are having an episode?
Christalyn, it doesn't seem to concurr with blood glucose levels....I can be normal at 103 , low at 45, and high at 187, and still have the symptoms. I have been in range for the past few days or so ( except for an unknown why 153 ?upon arising this morning) and I am still having the recurrent diplopia. It can last for a couple of days, a couple of hours, and then go away for months at a time...........

could seasonal allergies be causing some of these symptoms, or amplifying some of them? the time of year is suspect to me, and that its consistantly occuring....
NO seasonal allergies that I know of Boedica.

God BLess,

One adventure after the other, eh? You are in my prayers, Brunetta
Thanks Elaine. Vision still double and a little blurry in the turned in eye, but I can see well enough to type .( Well maybe not, I AM the TYPO QUEEN) .I have to leave the house today by automobile. I will do the "Pirates of the Caribbean " eyepatch, maybe even Jack Sparrow eyeliner on the exposed eye!!!! (LOL)
That will be today's adventure as I attempt to explain to others why I am patched up....... ARRR mateys....

God Bless,
Brunetta(
Thanks so much Elaine; Vision returned to normal today at around 5;00 p.m., single vision and focused. thanks so much for your prayers, which helped me so much.

Hello Brunetta,

God Bless you and you are always in my prayers. I don't know much about what is happening to you or much about diabetes at all. I am glad that tests are coming back negative and I wish I had more than support and my nightly prayers to offer to you, but as you said, HE will always keep you and HE will be right by your side when you need him most. ♥

Love and Blessings,
T.
Thanks Miss T. My vision returned to normal around 5:00 p.m.today and so far I have been o.k. I went to a Juneteenth festival and community blues and Jazz fest this afternoon and evening, and I am feeling a lot better nerve wise too. Thank you for your concern and costant prayers, Tanya.

God Bless,
Brunetta
