Hello out there...I'm new to San Diego and T1 diabetes (diagnosed just over two years ago). I've been blessed with some exceptional resources, doctors, etc. and am now seeking an active CDE/RD who can help me optimize my current dietary/workout regime. Here's what I'm looking for in this post -

1) Local CDEs and/or RDs (who are actively involved in sports) that offer consultation services specifically for athletes. I'm looking for them to scrutinize my understandings and provide best practices for my fitness goals as a T1.

2) I'm also interested in meeting (or discussing online) with other active T1's and learning more about your workouts and suggestions to help you perform at your highest level.

Thanks so much, and I look forward to being a regular contributor on this site and local community. This is my first post, so I'm not sure how interactive these discussions get. I'll do my best to respond.

I'm in San Diego on vacation this week but am usually around here. We went hiking @ Torrey Pines a couple of days ago and I ran 10 miles last Saturday and 6 miles on Tuesday. The hills are brutal as I live in Chicago! What sort of workouts do you do? My main suggestion to perform at a higher level would be to go for it. Depending on the sport, I think that diabetes and understanding how you process fuel may be useful?

Hey acidrock I did Torrey Pines on Wed. An hour or so on the Broken Hill side, awesome sunset run! Give me a shout if you're down for another run while you're out here!!

The San Diego T1 community is awesome my friend, you definitely landed in the right spot.

Let me know if you want to meet up, I can point you in the right direction for sure. You definitely want to get familiar with Insulindependece ...some very good friends of mine on the absolute forefront of Type 1 Diabetes and exercise.

Any other questions just ask!!

Thanks for the warm welcome to SD! I'm going to squeeze in a run here in Carlsbad this morning ths morning but am heading back to Chicago tomoorow!

The Behavioral Diabetes Institute in San Diego is really excellent!

I live in San Diego as well and the diabetic community here is AMAZING! There is a T1 support group that meets once a month called ACT-1, and most of the people there are very active. It's put on through the JDRF and can be found on their website.

What insurance do you have? That may influence which CDE you could go to and have it be covered.
