Wow, big bad news in the universe of pumping. The announcement makes clear that Smiths will do right by their current customers but pump market is losing the the most customizable option. What a turn off that corporate MiniMed with its proprietary and unimaginative design is cornering more of the market. The bit about continuous glucose monitoring is good news overall as I take that to mean that CGM integrated pumps (and insurance coverage along with it) is inevitable (eventually).

That "unimaginative design" includes great reliability, service, and quality. That's quite a slam you made towards the number pump in the world. Could you do better?

I'm with Dave. This isn't an iPhone. Our good health and our very lives depend on these small machines. Reliability and consistent quality are the top priorities.

My Cozmo has been far more reliable for me than my Mini-med was.

That's just not fair Don. I have been using a Deltec for years... I switched from Minimed because of the open choice of infusion sets for the Deltec. I have settled on the Fifty50 set and love it. Now that Deltec is bowing out MM is offering a trade. It's a big win for me... I am also a cancer survivor and on a very tight budget. Having the cheaper one touch strips work with their system is a tremendous blessing. Even with freestyles card that pays a portion of my co-pay I pay $47.50 a month for my test strips with one touch it's $15. Do the math.

I called Fifty50 and told them that I was switching to MM and found out that they have leur lock reservoirs that will allow me to use ANY set with my MM pump that I will soon be receiving. What a blessing I can still use my favorite set.

And I found out that my insurance will even pay for the CGM if my doctor writes a letter of medical necessity... and helps me fight a bit for it. I have been pumping since Minimed put out their old 504 and used a Lilly Autosyringe for a year an a half before then. MM has always had good reliable service.

Deltec was visionary for it's day... no one else had the attached glucometer... it was a nice pump and it served me well. But I have yet to find one insurance co in my state that covers the freestyle strips... so guess every pump out there has a drawback.

I am so thankful that MM is offering this bailout it's a blessing to me and I think you are being very opinionated about things. It's amazing how many innovations that this unimaginative company has created that the others have copied through the years.

Sadly the writing on the wall has been coming for some time with deltec. There has been no major change in design or functionality for about to years. I was impressed by the update between the 1700/1800 models... but physically no change.... unfortunately my eyes are changing and from what I can see I can read the MM screen a lot better than the deltec.

To each his own... but please be fair. There are solutions out there that unlock the MM pumps from using their sets.

You've seen that Animas and Omnipod are offering switch deals, too?

One of my pumper buddies in my province is using Cozmo; I have sent her this information .This company did not ask for a hand-out in order to survive , I am sure ...how sad for the future .

Ok I planned on going on Cozmo in May what does this mean to me? Should I order it asap so I am on warenty? ... It was the easy choice to pick Cozmo. I dont want to have to make another choice in pump.

Or is it that the Cozmo will still be made but not by Smiths Medical? If you could get back to me that would be great. Best way is to comment my page, Thank you so much for this update.

if it were me, i'd go with plan B--get a pump from a mfgr that will be in the business several years from now.

Ok so whats this mean Cozmo will be no more at all? Or do they plan to just sell it in a new way?

If you can not tell I am very frustrated with this news.

I mean that is real sad if so.

I'm with Dave, you might want to consider plan B since insurance companies usually will not let you get a new pump till yours is out of warranty (4 to 5 years) and it is non functional. Plus do you really want a pump that will have no upgrades coming? It looks like they are going to support existing pumps but no improvements with new features will happen now. I know you must be super irritated because I know you put alot of thought into this decision!
