I have heard that believe it or not, that even after many years with D, that some beta cells are still able to produce insulin. This may be a reason.

Also, is he ill, change in habits, such as increased exercise, etc? Alcohol intake?

There is an atypical diabetes that is diagnosed in children under the age of 1 year old. These childrenI may not need insulin to manage their diabetes. I forget what type of diabetes this is called and it is rare. Maybe your son's endo should test his C-peptide to see if possibly he has started to produce some insulin. Or it is just some freak thing that has happened for the past two days. I need much less insulin during the full-moon and still have many hypoglycemic events everyday. Who knows. About the time I figure something out, it changes.

Definately check out monogenic diabetes ~ exeter r interested in testing people as part of their research no matter what the current age is if they were diagnosed under 12 months of age.

What are his readings? Sometimes there is a decreased insulin usuage after a stomach bug - almost as if the stomach can't absorb carbs so the blood sugar stays pretty level for a short period. Drinking and exercise also decrease blood sugar.

Bg are around 100-120. He is eating normal and has not been sick. He doesn't really exercise but has always been on the thin side. It is just strange and I'm annoyed that endo hasn't called back.

Interesting. Have you asked about alcohol? Eating normal includes a fair amount of carbs, right? Has he been really stressed over a class or assignment? No supplements or new RX's?

It does happen! Unfortunately not often enough! Just be thankful that he is okay at the moment. Diabetes is a fickle thing.
Sometimes things spiral out of control and things become difficult, sometimes with a reason, sometimes without. But having good levels is something to be glad about! He might have been more active than usual, or going through a growth spurt which uses up the sugars. Good for him and long may it last!

I've noticed that every time i bolus for food lately, i fall into the floor... today especially. I bolused, ate dinner, and went to bed last night, and woke up at 23 this morning... got that up, ate breakfast, bolused for it, hit the floor. Same at lunch...

How much carbs is he eating? I could only get away with this if I was eating very low carb (less than 10g per meal). It is possible that he is still producing enough insulin on his own to not need to bolus for meals.

I would say that this is OK as long as he is still checking his blood sugars OFTEN!

It's happening to me as we speak!! I've been T1 for 36 years, always good control. Went on the pod about 4 months ago, had some insurance issues and had to go off for 24 hours. Before my 24 hour break I was running high through the night. After going back on I started running horribly low (30-40) all night. I bolused for lunch today but I've been snacking all day without bolusing and I'm currently at 60! Don't know what's going on!
