I have been taking gabapentin for my peripheral neuropathy for about a year now. I also was started on Tramadol which I am now weaning myself off of because I don't want to harm the baby. I can not find any information though about gabapentin and pregnancy and if there is anything I should know about taking it or if I should stop taking it. I do not want to risk the life of my child (when I do become pregnant) just because I was taking something I shouldn't have been. Does anyone know if I should stop taking the gabapentin now or wait?

Thanks
Cherise

I don't know anything about that medication, but the first 3 months of pregnancy are the organ forming months and you may need to be off it. You can check with a pharmacist, they usually know more than the doctor.
Thanks for the info.
Gabapentin is a pregnancy category C. This means that animal studies show no adverse fetal effects but no controlled human studies OR no animal or human studies have been done. Weigh possible fetal risk versus maternal benefit. Would definitely talk to your OB on this one. My guess is that they will have you stop taking it (wean off of it) bnefore you are trying to get pregnant.
