Hi all~ I'm an RN CDE and am hoping to get some feedback on simple free texting services to send text reminders to help remember to check sugars. I'm looking for feedback on free services. There are like a bazillion and instead of just picking out of a hat I'd love recommendations. This is mainly going to be for those who need that little extra reminder to help create a new habit of tesing where the main problems is just not remembering to do it~ Thanks all!~

PS. I'm not looking for apps for smartphones, just text messaging services.

And in a surprise turnaround, recent work in Colorado looked at a population of adult diabetics, mostly uninsured or on Medicare/Medicaid and found some improvements in care. The study concluded that certain patients may benefit from a cell-phone based text messaging support.

got ur bs?

This would be a good tool for a clinic or a CDE. If it was rolled out on a large scale there would be some cost, many people I know would not pay especially diabetic victims on a fixed income.

Many people choose not to test because it's expensive and after a few days it's no longer on their daily priority list..."They choose to forget".

Hi Kara,

First of all, I am amazed at how more people cared about your use of the term blood sugar over blood glucose rather than your initial question...that being said, I believe that Verizon has a service called vtxt, and there are also a few online services - www.ohdontforget.com , www.textreminders.net , and www.toldtwice.com

Hope this helps,
