I am conducting some of the most mind blowing research known to the diabetes world called, *The Banana Studies.* After my research is complete, I will be doing absolutely nothing with the findings. Surfing Diabetic message boards for several years now, I began to notice an interesting trend... bananas will either send a Diabetics blood sugars sky high or not effect their blood sugars at all. So let the studies begin right now. Do bananas effect your blood sugars?

NOTE: Please list what Type of Diabetes you have.

For me banana's do not effect my blood sugars at all. As a matter of fact, I treat them almost like I free food.

like bsc , my blood sugar goes bananas when i eat the fruit.
It's really too bad because i was defenetly banana addict
before i was diagnosed with diabetes type one a few months ago.

Good luck for your research! :)
I very rarely eat bananas, but when I do, I treat them like any other cmoplex carb. They are like pasta to me, but nothing crazy I guess.
Type 1

I suppose, you can consider they will spike my BG bc pasta does?
Fruit represents the only "sweet" things I tend eat. I can't be bothered with chocolate, cakes, biscuits, sweets and all the rest of it -- not even at Christmas and Easter. Is this just an age thing? Or perhaps a veteran diabetic age thing? I sometimes have a banana and don't really notice any massive spike, but I'd rather have an apple, or pear, or orange, or peach, or nectarine cut up and covered in plain yoghurt. The trouble with bananas is that they're eaten too damn quickly and I'd rather take my time over the one sweet thing I do allow myself.
they don't affect me much....sometimes not at all....
very interesting!
at my last ADA StepOut walk, the volunteers and walk committee got in trouble for offering bananas at a "diabetes" walk and were yelled at and told to get rid of the bananas and put out all the apples instead.....i thought that was weird

be sure to post your results! i'm curious to see! ;-)
They have little impact on my bgs. Yay Bananas!
I'm almost embarressed to say that I "think" they affect me the same as any other carb cause I bolus for them and I haven't had any issue with that but I'm going to try not bolusing and see what happens (noone freak out 'cause its my decision!). Thanks for the interesting topic! I'm dying to know if there are any other free foods for some and not for others! BTW, am a T1
I've never noticed any major impact of bananas on my son Eric's BG (Eric is T1). He doesn't eat them very often because he's picky and I think he's decided they're on the list of foods to point at and jabber loudly about rather than eat.
T1 here. Bananas on the green side are my fave, and I bolus only a bit for them, more for ripe ones.

With all fresh fruit, I always bolus less than with any other type of carb. Otherwise, I go low exactly one hour and 15 mins. later. Weird. If I take half of a normal bolus, it works out just fine.
Danny, there has been a enviromental concern in my experiment. Just yesterday my instrument "my spoon" accidently slipped into my husbands banana split at the resturant. All I wanted was a little piece of banana with a drizzle of chocolate. Knowing the concequenses of this experiment I had to bolus to support the integrity of the experiement.

So therefore, my finding are you must bolus for enviromental factors. As for your findings with the "green to ripe" factor, and the natural state of banana, I've gotta bolus for the riper.

This has been fun. Thanks.
too funny
Danny,

Please inform me when you begin conducting the Krispy Kreme Studies, or perhaps the Cinammon Toast Crunch Studies. I think I may like to participate in those as well.

In Health,
Dino
I would be interested in the "Morning Coffee" study. My own research has resulted in conflicting results :)
