There are some things I just can't handle BG-wise, things that, of course, I crave! I sometimes think of them as being in my D food graveyard, headstone and all.

Today the food I missed the most was bagels. Everything bagels. Everything bagels with lox, cream cheese, and a sliver of onion.

RIP bagels ;(

What's in your D food graveyard?

Apples.

How ironic is that.

Healthful, spiteful apples.

Yeah, I regret the most having to leave behind the healthy foods. For me the yogurt, granola and fruit that was my breakfast for so long.

I guess I am lucky Zoe, in that I can have some plain non fat greek yogurt, with some fresh or frozen raspberries or blackberries and have absolutely no ill effects with my blood sugar. I'm not a big granola fan, so I can't miss what I didn't eat to begin with.

Yes, I csm manage that as well, Clare. I tried for awhile having yogurt and berries and throwing in some sliced almonds to have the crunch. It was ok, but not an alternative I liked enough to stick to. I'm glad you reminded me of it, though as I can use it as an alternative especially as summer comes.

Ren, same here - oatmeal eater. And more recently the steel cut variety, sometimes with a banana or a dried, chopped fig or some granola sprinkled on top.

Cereal = ( One of my favorite food in the world but I had to give that up a long time ago

Yep, cereal and granola were ones I tried as hard as I could, buying every "healthy" alternative kind in the store. They all sent me up into the 200's with any reasonable dose of insulin. What an ordinary thing to not be able to eat!

oh man, this thread...when I was first diagnosed I used to be able to manage a heavy carb load better. 18 years into this thing I can't manage a lot of foods now. I tried the extended bolus on the pump and with high fat foods, no matter how long I extend the bolus for my blood sugar just goes high on the other end of the bolus, so I stay away from a lot of fried food unless it's high in protein

- granola and breakfast cereals
- smoothies (alas)
- pizza
- french fries
- most nuts (the sugar and fat content kill me)
- movie popcorn really bites me on the ass sometimes, other times the bolus works really well
- iced cakes (my very favorite)
- yeah, with ice cream I just try to eat a tiny amount. I've also switched to dark chocolate which has been helpful

Pre-diabetes, I used to love Thai iced tea. I have not had a Thai iced tea in 18 years. RIP.

I feel alot better reading these b/c everyone inmy family thinks Imcrazythat no matter what i bolus Im not covering it. For me its time of day. However french fries w/ chile are gone. I love Chocolate malts but wow bad and like everyone else Beer particuarily dark beers so its been goodbye Guinness. Pasta if its wheat not as bad Pizza if thin crusrt w/ sprinkle cheese Parm or romanook and greenpeppers black olives no sausage but anchovies would be ok excepet for the salt which then there's my blood pressure. Thank God for Yoplait yougurt. I also have huge issues w/ cheese love it but it send my B/S up to the roof. Never bolus for coffeebut I drink it black.Still miss R/C and Orange Crush.
Maggi

Orange juice. I used to drink a large glass every moring. Now I do much better with an orange. Since my 20 something son who loves OJ as much as I do moved back in with us I will occasionally have a very small ammount since it is in the house for him, but in general I just find it easier to stay away from it.

fresh baked banana bread...never knew i missed it until i read this thread and smelled it baking in the kitchen at the same time!!!
