Just curious if any of you are currently dealing with trigger finger? I have had it for about a year now in my left hand (my writing hand). The pain comes and goes, usually hurts the worst at the end of a work day. I have a finger splint made by Active Innovations that has given me very little relief. Even pain meds do not help. I have seen my primary care doctor about this and she said there is very little that can be done besides pain medication, possible injections at the site of the pain, and then surgery as a last resort. Has anybody tried anything that has given them relief?

Permalink Reply by MegaMinxX on February 8, 2013 at 5:33pm I've had surgery on my right (dominant hand) thumb and pinky finger about 15 years ago, about 2 years ago, thumb and middle finger on left hand. (T1D for 48 yrs)
In each case, I think over use/activity contributed to getting it to a point where splints, rest and advil just wasn't enough. Procedure itself was very simple, and recovery was quick for me.
I think I had injections before the first surgery, but it was steroids, and made my BG crazy, and it was only temporary relief. So for me, I didn't think of surgery as the 'last' resort, but was the first choice when my left hand required treatment. The actual surgical procedure took less than 10 minutes. With checkin, prep, and waiting, it was about 2 hours.
Permalink Reply by PedsRN on February 9, 2013 at 7:10am I've had 4 episodes of trigger finger. 3 eventually required surgery, which was extremely effective and very little pain afterwards. My last bout of trigger thumb, I started splinting early and really watched the repetitive or overuse of that thumb and after about 6 weeks cleared up. Of course it helps that I've had my lowest A1c's over the last year.
