Time for the new series of "lab work" (ie fasting). Why on earth do THEY waste our time with the fasting portion of the bloodwork??? Why on earth would they require us to not take our insulin...?

WHY ????

Am I suddenly going to be/get magicly cured after 40 years as a Type 1....? How much could insulin mess with ANYTHING but the BG... which will be off because gee... HEY YOU'RE A DIABETIC .and NOT taking insulin (until after the test is done). I get it that food could alter some blood chemistry (???)... but what are they really looking for that insulin could possibly alter besides BG?

What am I missing 8 Z ???

I went to a new endork at a diabetes center at a major hospital in Pittsburgh last week. For my Apidra, I just had “varies” on my sheet. The nurse said, “Do you use a sliding scale?” My response was “No, I do carb counting. Sliding scales are from the dark ages.” She looked at me like I was nuts.
If we had a "dirty words list" on this site, "sliding scale" would be right there on the top! LOL!!
You are right Natalie! Of course, I read it as "dirty words that get us banned" before I realized what you meant!

LOL @ "there will never be agreement"
;0)

We may agree to disagree. It could happen.
No, I disagree, we may agree, maybe, sometimes.
Alan... I agree :)
There you go Lots! I agree.
I do not know, but my doctor knows that I have a two mile hike to hospital on foot and then face a 2 to 3 hour wait so we do the blood tests while not fasting! I compromise and give a wee specimen right before breakfast! I know I would never survive.

I do not understand it myself. We test ourselves as soon as we wake, so why do they need to know blood glucose levels when we are fasting.

I always test at the same time as they draw blood, or seconds before or after and make a note of what it was at the time of the blood test. I do know that they are testing cholesterol too. Perhaps that is the reason.
