YES, I will have to have a Vitrectomy in my right eye. No choice. The Retinal Specialist is a very nice man, I truly like him and trust his expertise. Surgery is being scheduled and I will go to my Primary Doctor very soon to have blood work and EKG prior. Laser Surgery in my left eye in two weeks as well.

I have educated myself on the Vitrectomy and I am fine with having it done. I would lose vision and possibly blindness in that eye if I do not have the surgery....SO, that is a no brainer :)

I am overwhelmed with gratitude......I would not have the strength I do now if it wasn't for ALL of YOU, my friends whom I just love and treasure, admire. Saying "Thank You" doesn't seem to be enough. All of you mean more to me than I could ever express.

I look forward to being able to see without this "Web" of blood that I have had for the last 13 months.

The Doctor told me that this isn't my fault......"You were dealt a hand, called "Diabetes".

Grateful for this Technology. and most of all my friends and loved ones. Thank You.

I am sure that the prospect of this procedure leaves you anxious. I've never had it. I have a friend who had the procedure quite succesfully for the same reasons. I don't know if it helps, but the retina specialist I know is very active on the web. He has lots of information on his web site, including information about Vitrectomy. He answers questions from patients, including those that have had a Vitrectomy. He is a really optimistic and reassuring doctor. It does see that the procedure, while a bit scary does work and is really very safe. Anyway, I hope that helps. My thoughts are with you.
Thank you bsc....this does help, and I will check it out.
oh Robyn I'm so sorry. I was hoping everything would clear up. you've already gone through so much. I haven't had to do it, but even though the thought of it is so very scary, I've heard that it is safe, like bsc said. I know our mutual friend Kathy in Minneapolis has had it done.
Kathy,

You may want to remove your email from a public post & send it to Robyn privately. Lots of programs trolling for email addresses.
Marie and Kathy....I appreciate your comments. This Specialist is going to be my SECOND opinion. I am hoping that the injections of Avastin will do the trick. The vitrectomy will be done if this doesn't work. I was very nervous about this since my Mom had it done and it was just a nightmare for her. But....that was over 20 yrs ago ???? Thank you Kathy for the pink candle...you are so very sweet.
My left eye is okay. The right eye is like looking through a spider web or net....blood and fluid. Very bad today, so I am using my left eye to see...LOL. Love you all and just reading your messages makes me feel better.
I think everyone's experience is different. Mine was a 'nightmare' just 2.5 years ago. However, I don't regret it - I do believe it saved my sight!
I had a vitrectomy on my left eye in 2009. You can send me a message with any specific questions!
Thank you Kari....xo
Sweetie, am so sorry for the fears & anxiety surrounding that procedure. You've been through so much to face the prospect of yet another. If it's any comfort, & I hope it is, I know two people who had it & were thrilled with the results. They had no problems at all. Holding you close.
Gerri, I am glad to hear that the people you know had no problems and it went well. I am nervous only because of the thought.....cutting my eye and maybe stitches. My Doctor said that most of the time you dont need them...BUT, if you do they are painful and it lasts about one month. YIKES!!!! The "Spider Web" "Net" thing I have going on now with blood and fluid is driving me mad!! Thank you for your message. This really helps to hear from all of you. Love ya xo
My dr didn't tell me stitches were something I might not need....I had stitches (in two spots). That might go a long way in explaining why my recovery sucked so much compared to a lot of other people I've heard from!

Hopefully that's not something you'll need. But if so, you'd be given antibiotic drops, and steroid drops for the inflammation.
Sorry you had such a horrible experience Kari....how are your eyes now?
