May have posted earlier in this discussion, son, at near his 14th birthday was taken into ICU for 4 days starting with a BS of 774. DKA. In and out of conscientiousness. It was days before he knew what was happening to him.

First time poster...long time lurker :-)
I was diagnosed 18 years ago (12 y/o) went to the Dr 3 days earlier than my scheduled appointment doc took one look at me and gave me a urine test, I was immediately rushed to the ER of the nearby hospital...BS in the upper 900's...DKA...spilling proteins...low blood pressure...15.2 A1C...spent 9 days in ICU on a myriad of monitors. I was told if I had not come in the day I did, I would have gone into a coma that evening (I could barely stay awake and feel asleep several times at the Dr's office). I too, was running to the restroom so much I never wanted to leave the house! Other than the extreme thirst and exhaustion I didn't even notice the 25lbs I had lost (5'7 at 100 lbs)! Absolute Type 1.

A1C over 11 when I was diagnosed. Type 2. Now my last A1C was 6.7

I couldn't see to drive myself to work. The optometrist said my problems might be caused by diabetes. I went to my family doctor and asked to be tested for diabetes. She thought that was not likely. The A1c came back around 11. I think one A1c was 10.7 and second test was 11.2. I don't remember a BG value, but it must have been very high with these A1cs. I got it down to 6.0 in 3 months. Unfortunately my endo did not get the diagnosis right. He treated me like a Type 2. After 2 years his nurse practioner figured it out- LADA.

I was diagnosed during a fertility workup before things got really bad... 267 fasting glucose, and 11.5 A1c. Type 1.

(or LADA, whatever that means. I was 39 at diagnosis.)

T1, I was too "HI" to read on the meter at my normal doctors so they sent me in an ambulance (hooked up to IVs) and later once I got to the hospital I was at 768.

I had 576.Since I didn't have any ketones or symptoms, the doctors aren't sure what type I am. As a result, I'm getting some genetic testing done.
