Whats the most annoying comment you've ever gotten about diabetes?

I've gotten quite a lot of really annoying and sometimes even hurtful comments about my diabetes...

When i told a family friend who (by the way) is an assistant nurse about my condition she said "really? but you will get better right? it will go away when you start taking care of yourself?"
and i said "no, i will always be a diabetic and i will actually get worse since my body will eventually stop producing insulin all together"
and she still kept insisting that I would get better in time and that my condition would go away...

i couldnt believe she knew so little

We went to see "Skyfall" last night and it was very good, one of the best James Bond films ever. But watching this thread is MUCH more entertaining -- like sitting in the stands at the ancient Roman coliseum, watching the gladiators slice each other into hamburger, accomplishing nothing.

LOL.. I"m starting to agree

hamburgers, mmmm...

I really hope you are not lumping my and Natalie's attempts to talk intelligently about Type in with Dean's cruel and ignorant rants.

I've always tried to present my views calmly and rationally, be open to dialogue with those who disagree and most of all be respectful of others. Who is being mocking and rude now? Imho if we let one ranting person make it impossible for others to have polite dialogue, that person has won...which is sad.

Zoe----Never! Intelligent back and forth is what we are about here! Bullies like Dean are really not capable of that. As you said a ways back, this thread is getting quite disorganized and maybe we should be sure to name the person we are responding to in our posts.

I do think laughter is one way of disarming a bully, though....

im just getting my popcorn ready for deans comments. you and natalie are exchanging info, chatting away in a civil manner-thats not a popcorn situation!!

Popcorn situation, I love it LOL. Zoe, I love splitting hairs as much as you and natalie. I put my popcorn away to read your posts :)

Thanks, guys; I appreciate the clarification. I was getting a bit over-sensitive/defensive. Glad to hear I'm not a perpetrator of a popcorn situation! Any of you familiar with the I Ching will understand that if I did a reading now I'm sure it would say something about "this is not a time to pursue your goals/withdraw without blame."

:)

Oh so true David....and waiting for another wee lion to enter the arena!!
Pass the popcorn please!

I thought Skyfall plodded quite a bit towards the end.

I think we accomplishing quite a bit in the thread. I don't disagree with Dean that exercise and diet are very important but they are very important for everyone. I think that the distinction on the source of T2 is very important to understanding the disease. There was a twitter thing this AM I lurked on that mentioned that T1 and T2 were "separated" in 1959, which suprised me a great deal. The diseases were identified for thousands of years before the distinction was made. To make statements like "Stop diabetes with exercise and diet" is not accurate. Those are both critical and important weapons with which to treat diabetes (along with heart disease, depression, autism and various other diseases that benefit from exercise and exposure to green space) but they don't stop it unless perhaps to put it into remission. But it's still there.

Get out of my brain AR.... LOL

Hence the reason I wish they were never separated, or at least kept exclusive to the medical community. So many discussions concerning T1 & T2 have become equivalent to race wars it seams. Regardless of what type you have, it boils down to an inability to metabolize sugar properly, and we try to do our best to handle this problem, by what ever method is best for the individual.
