Whats the most annoying comment you've ever gotten about diabetes?

I've gotten quite a lot of really annoying and sometimes even hurtful comments about my diabetes...

When i told a family friend who (by the way) is an assistant nurse about my condition she said "really? but you will get better right? it will go away when you start taking care of yourself?"
and i said "no, i will always be a diabetic and i will actually get worse since my body will eventually stop producing insulin all together"
and she still kept insisting that I would get better in time and that my condition would go away...

i couldnt believe she knew so little

I remember it like it was yesterday. 20 years ago, at the reception following my father's funeral, we were in the church social hall having sandwiches and cake. A tray of cake slices was being passed around my table and just as it got to me, a woman from way across the room stood up and yelled "don't let her have any - she's diabetic!". I can still feel the flush rising up in my face as the room became very quiet and everyone stared at me.
My mom does this to my son when we are at a restaurant and he orders a Diet drink,, she will ALWAYS inform the waiter loudly (cuz she is loud) to make sure that its DIET because HE HAS DIABETES!!!..now my son just orders water when we are with her.
tell your mom to stop informing the wait staff because your son knows what to order and he's also learning to take care of him. it doesn't help to overprotect him.
YOU SHOULD TELL YOUR MOTHER TO JUST TELL THE WORLD ,WHICH SHE JUST DID,ABOUT YOUR SON'S DIABETES.I BET THAT WILL CLOSE HER MOUTH.//SMILES
Typing in all caps is considered yelling on the internet by the way.
lol my grama does the same to me shes diabetic but type 2 although she is considered diabetic she dosen't understand

the oter day i was at the movies and i ordered a coke zero you'd think she'd know that thet was a diet kind of coke but no she ordered a diet and loudly told me to get the diet... i was like i know i did get the diet then she told the lady casheir i was diabetic i wouldn't be surpried if everybody herd our convo bcz she is also so loud!!!
I used to be a waitress. I actually heard another waitress talking and say she gave all diet orders, regular soda. She said that they could not tell the difference. I calmly explained to her why she shouldn't do this (This is before I became diabetic). But honestly, some people are not the brightest bulbs. If I am in doubt, I have my husband take a sip to see if it is regular or not. LOL.
There is a difference! I can tell! This is very dangerous practise! When I go to a pub or restaurant and order the diet version etc, I make sure that I watch what they are doing and explain to them that it HAS to be a diet version because a glass of the regular can kill me as it will send my sugars through the roof, requiring hospitalisation. Most of the time they are fine about it.
omg I can tell the difference by taste and by smell..some lady to us that when she brought me a regular soda instead of diet...she said did u taste it? I told her I didn't have to taste it to know it wasn't diet I could smell the difference and boy my mother almost went through the roof.
i had that happen to me with some cookies. there was a party, lotsa peope...most of whom i didn't know, but was eager to meet....and someone's like "hey man, want a cookie?" and as i'm ABOUT to politely say no, my roommate was like "Nah man, he can't eat cookies! He's got THE DIABETES. He's like Paul." Comparing me to this other guy we both knew that has diabtetes. I'm like "THE DIABETES"? i thought to myself. Plus, there was then a room full of people who were all stuck thinking to themselves "Yea...THAT was awkward." I went outside for a cigarette immediately...yea yea yea....i know i shouldn't smoke....please don't lecture me about that.
Hey Travis...we may be stuck with "the diabetes"....but first of all we're human!!!
could have been me yelling at you. i'm glad i know better now.
