Whats the most annoying comment you've ever gotten about diabetes?

I've gotten quite a lot of really annoying and sometimes even hurtful comments about my diabetes...

When i told a family friend who (by the way) is an assistant nurse about my condition she said "really? but you will get better right? it will go away when you start taking care of yourself?"
and i said "no, i will always be a diabetic and i will actually get worse since my body will eventually stop producing insulin all together"
and she still kept insisting that I would get better in time and that my condition would go away...

i couldnt believe she knew so little

It is indeed a brilliant idea.

Perhaps this is something we can do for the second anniversary of TuDiabetes!

I proudly wear my pump on my belt, which often provides an opportunity for sharing a little information about diabetes when I am inevitably asked "Is that a beeper?". I test myself wherever I am whenever I need to; while I don't make a point of waving my bloody finger around, I do not go to great lengths to conceal what I am doing. I was the same way when I used shots/pen, I was discreet but did what I needed to do. Sometimes people stared, but I was doing what I need to do to live! More than anything, I don't mind getting looked at when I test/inject/pump because of the chances it occasionally provides to share some information to people who are interested.

True here too, though I don't pump....I welcome a well intentioned question....it's an oppportunity to bring awareness.

Using the bathroom sounds like a good idea if you want to find a more germ-laden place to do it

I refuse to give myself a shot in the bathroom. Think about it when you go in for a flu shot, do you go run in the bathroom. The #1 most unsanitary room in a home !

Oh Grrrrrr....Reading all this makes me SO DAMN ANGRY!

I can't think of a more unsanitary place.

In Canada, someone had that happen in a restaurant and they were awarded $2500 for loss of dignity in the Human Rights Tribunal..... they are not allowed to object.

The next time ask this guy, " What would you rather have, a dead body because you denied me a life-saving medication, or me giving myself insulin so I can live? "

That's what I would do, too. I do my shots in public and just think if they don't want to look, they don't need to look. This is something I need to do.

I remember it like it was yesterday. 20 years ago, at the reception following my father's funeral, we were in the church social hall having sandwiches and cake. A tray of cake slices was being passed around my table and just as it got to me, a woman from way across the room stood up and yelled "don't let her have any - she's diabetic!". I can still feel the flush rising up in my face as the room became very quiet and everyone stared at me.

My mom does this to my son when we are at a restaurant and he orders a Diet drink,, she will ALWAYS inform the waiter loudly (cuz she is loud) to make sure that its DIET because HE HAS DIABETES!!!..now my son just orders water when we are with her.
