Whats the most annoying comment you've ever gotten about diabetes?

I've gotten quite a lot of really annoying and sometimes even hurtful comments about my diabetes...

When i told a family friend who (by the way) is an assistant nurse about my condition she said "really? but you will get better right? it will go away when you start taking care of yourself?"
and i said "no, i will always be a diabetic and i will actually get worse since my body will eventually stop producing insulin all together"
and she still kept insisting that I would get better in time and that my condition would go away...

i couldnt believe she knew so little

you should have told her, i ordered a diet coke for a REASON! and tell her not to mess with customer's orders because someone could wind up dead, like a person may be allergic to peanuts and she decides to try them out.

I've learned the hard way not to trust the fountian drinks... sometimes the hoses get mixed up. I know I've seen it. I've had a fast food place here in town give me a soft drink swearing it was diet... I knew it wasn't, and got into a argument with the counter person. Showed them a simple test (k-stick) and sure enough they got the hoses mixed. No didn't get a free meal, manager was a pri*k about everything, telling me it made no difference...blah blah blah. I did write a letter to corp. and they sent me a free meal ticket but I never gone back to that fast food place. Not to mention any names but does anyone need a meal from the golden arches ???

That happened to me once in a food court at a mall. I ordered my usual diet soda, but I was handed a regular coke. I asked the woman who helped me if she gave me a regular soda and she replied "Yeah, that's what you ordered". I politely informed her that I had ordered a diet and asked for a new drink, but she kept insisting I ordered a regular soda. Eventually the manager came over, and she backed her employee! I don't like to do stuff like this, but I said "Listen, I am a diabetic, and there is no way I am ordered a regular soda" (she didn't need to know I would if my bg was low...). Finally, although both continued to insist I had ordered a regular soda, they gave me my diet coke. Crazy.

Such stupidity! What ever happened to the customer is always right? It's a freakin soda, was it really worth their time to argue about it? No matter who made the mistake they should've appologized for the miscommunication and given you the diet, not make a spectacle of it.

Dollar for dollar....they wasted more $ on the petty argument ( since time is money ), than on the cost of the £*&@%%£ extra coke....and for what purpose pray tell....arguing with you in front of other customers surely wont win THEM any brownie points!!!

i worked at a convience store for over 17 years. the average cost for a fountain coke is about 18 cents, give or take. the drink that you bought was what? maybe somewhere between $1.50 and 2.00. they only lost the 18 cents. rule of thumb, customer is always right and you give them the drink. never argue with a customer whether there are other customers around or not. be polite, you want them to come back. had a complaint been made both clerk and manager could have been fired. more likely they would have been written up, unless it had happened before.

long time ago I worked in a burger joint (not fast food but a little diner). We could drink all the soda we wanted for free. The cost of soda is nothing. Heck, most places offer free refills.

Good grief! That employee had a bad sense of humor, piled on top of bad judgment!

HOW TO TEST A BEVERAGE FOR GLUCOSE: Here's a trick I learned nearly two decades ago... when you suspect that you've been given a regular soda rather than a diet, you can know for sure by using your glucose meter to test the soda. Prepare your meter as usual, then lift your straw almost out of the soda, leaving just a a little in the end of it. Place your thumb over the top of the straw and keep it there (until you place the straw back in the cup). Use the bit of soda in the tip of your straw on the meter strip - in place of a drop of your blood. If the meter reading goes into the stratosphere (is waay high or just reads "HIGH") you know it is sugared. If it is diet, it won't give a numeric reading because there is no glucose in the liquid, but will display "LOW" (at least that's what my One Touch Ultra does). (I gave the details for those who may read this but not know how to create a vacuum in a straw - don't mean to insult anyone's intelligence.)
