I'm finding it really hard to stick to my good eating. How did you friends get past this? Any special ideas? I'm sure in need of some right now.

Yes, I have a hard time with my son, he is 5, almost 6... little by little he is eating more veggies... but not as much as I we will like (or we try to eat ourselves), so sometimes I end up making food for us and food for him, nothing unhealthy, but perhaps more "kid friendly", I don't even like the term, and I feel so guilty for that.

It is close it impossible to make him eat celery or even carrots. But we will keep trying.

It's all about willpower. A lot of time it is mind over matter. I finally realised that I cannot bring bad food into my house. Always have something on hand that is low carb but is a little extravagent. I keep Breyers Low Carb ice cream bars on hand. They are only 9 carbs and actually keep my bg stable for many hours. If possible don't even have small portions of chips, pretzels, etc. Those kind of foods are very addictive. That's why they are always on sale in the store. Soda and Chipa are always advertised cheap because they know we are addicted to them.

Dean---In middle-age, weight maintenance is hugely difficult and one thing that has worked for me is to allow a Treat Day one day per week. Having lost the necessary weight and established decent eating habits a few years ago, I had to come to grips with maintaining all that---wow---that's a whole other problem. So I weigh myself every Friday, and good, bad, or indifferent, I allow some treats on Fridays. It tends to be lo-carb still, but maybe extra calories in the form of a larger portion---some fancy cheeses, for instance, and a couple extra pieces of my carb-neutral chocolate or a little real cream on my blueberries.....I know it's not a weight maintenance thing for you, but this is sort of a variation on what Lane suggested and it helps to keep me on track, as well as sane!......Wishing you well!.....Your neighbor, Judith.....

This might sound like a Cliché, but eat before you go grocery shopping! And this one piece of advice might sound wierd.... take a shower before you go grocery shopping! LOL Im being serious! The better I feel, as best as I can feel, the better my choices are while shopping. I find that if I dont do these two things I make bad choices. Making a list also helps. Yes I am weird!

Nicole, I can see that the shower idea is a little weird, but if it works for you, I'm not arguing.

A list is essential, and I live by mine. I make a list of the meals or at least main course and some sides that will go with every dinner that we have. Lunches are usually pretty much the same, and then breakfast also. I don't have "unlegal" foods in the house....if the family brings them in (and they do) they have to label it as such and then put is somewhere that I won't be able to get at.....I am only 5'2", so high pantry shelves are wonderful storage for them. I have my own shelf in the frig and they don't get to eat those "treats"....unless they ask first.

It's a matter of mind over the food. When I was losing my 50 lbs, I had to keep reminding myself that the food was not as important as the long term goal of being healthy. I posted sayings, pictures, etc all over the kitchen, wrote them down on my journaling pages. Whatever it took to help me out...it worked. Not so much easy with the "D"...but I am working on it continually.

I had a really hard time with this until I got my husband on board and we are changing to a healthier lifestyle. We are both using the bodybugg program and while it helps you lose weight it also helps you with nutrition. I don't keep but a few "allowable" snack foods in the house. Now when I know that a cookie is x amount of cal and carbs I really ask myself where am I at this point today, what is my BG, can I have it, do I really want it, and can I afford to eat it?

Since we started doing this 2 months ago not only have we lost weight but my husband is finally understanding what choices I have to make every day for the rest of my life. He has decided that he will eat what I am able to eat because otherwise if I am trying to cook for both of us I will eventually wind up eating what he eats. That support has made all the difference.

It also helps that we decided no more cruises until we both are the weight we want to be. I am looking forward to vacation next summer.

I've really enjoyed discovering new foods to switch out for the stuff that's now off limits. Try seeing it as an opportunity to experiment. For example, I never would have suspected that I would like liver. And I rediscovered string cheese. I think it's a lot more fun now than it was when I was a kid!

Struggling too! It's work in progress really. I get scared when I gets highs and feel sick, do good, then feel better and cheat.

Started Byetta and have to eat more carbs than usual so it has helped me not to be so rebellious.
