I love the Orbit Micros - NOT the Orbit 90s, the micros. Straight in and the thinnest gauge I've ever seen (31). I know some children who love them, I certainly do. Not just because of the gauge, but also because of the 360 rotation (I got so tired of the tangles) - and because I couldn't tolerate teflon.

I use the Cleo90 and absolutely love it! But different sites work well for different people. My friend Bethany hates the cleo90 as much as I love it. Then again Sarah uses the same thing and likes it as much as I do. So I guess you'll just have to try some and find what suits your son the best.
The Cleo90 isn't steel. Each site comes encased in its own little inserting device, but you control the speed it inserts. So I consider it a manual. Because of the inserting device, you never have to see the needle.

You could try the Comfort Shorts, it is the same cannula as the Inset30 but without the automatic insertion device. It does have a large needle, but you just insert the needle, hold down the sticky tape & pull the needle out. Animas has them.

I use them, and compared to the regular Comforts, they are shorter and they are less intimidating.
My CDE taught me to use these ten years ago and I have never looked back, and almost never have had a bad set.
She taught me to visualize 90-60 30 and then go for it!
Mentally it worked!

After trying several different styles, my five yr old daughter strongly prefers those same (or similar) manual steel 6mm that you described. Is it possible that this set change just coincidentally hit a bad spot? I just wonder that because we've had that same thing occur once in a while with other styles of infusion sets too. You would obviously know your son's situation best but it might be worth a retry. Just a thought.

Regardless, your endo should be able to arrange for some free trials of a number of different styles so that you can figure out what feels best for you guys.

I had the same issue when starting with the inset 30 because of the size and that u can see the process when inserting. I just look away now and I love it, I can hardly feel it which is a big difference from the inset and its so easy to take off that I dnt even use the unisolve wipe. It also depends in the area you use it in, I use inset for tummy area and the inset 30 for the legs.

thank you to EVERYONE for responding. we still are not having much luck but are still on the hunt. I am thinking of trying the micros tomorrow i just got some in the mail.

wish I could help, my three year old daughter has been pumping for 5 months. the Inset 30's are the best for her (angled), we'e had all kinds of site problems and highs I've never seen on shots...starting to wonder if we should go back to shots!

My daughter has been pumping for a year now and after trying almost every set on the market she has chosen the Orbit Micros as well. She loves them. The only problem we have is sometimes they do not stick that well but we cut a hole in IV 3000 strips and place it on top befire we attach her to the pump and it works like a charm!!
