Question Regarding the "Ping" Pump and the Calorie King carb counting feature.

I am seriously considering moving from the Minimed Paridigm Pump to the Animas One Touch Ping. I appreciate all of the feedback in these forums as they have made my ddecision much easier. One question I have though is regarding the Calorie King or the carbohydrate software on the pump.

Does anyone really use this? Or is it easier just to do it your self manually?

Carb counting is a major fallback of my diabetes control. I am just wondering if this is a useful feature or not?

Thank you everyone for any feedback.

I thought it would be great too and I did use it once or twice but "for me" it was more of a hassle than it is to just manually enter the stuff. I was on the Paradigm as well. The two things that I like better with the ping over the paradigm is the color screen and the fact that it has a leur lock. You can use whichever sets you like and do not have to stick with one company. However I loved my Paradigm 522 very much and missed it at first when I changed it out for a Cozmo... I think if they changed those two things then I would concider going back on it. ha ha I LOVE the ping though and their customer service. The only thing I do not like on my Ping is that you really do have to push tons of buttons.
Sandy,

Thank youso very much. I greatly appreciate our opinion on the "Ping" As I originally said, my mind is basically made up and I am going to go with the Ping over the Omnipod.

Do you mind me asking what infusion set you use? Do you use the Animas?
Yes I use their straight sets. I tried the angled but they just didn't really work for me so mostly I have the 6mm and I order some 9mm for spots that I have more cushion on. :o) They work well for me.
I thought I would use the calorie king feature, but its actually kind of a pain. I do love the Ping though and I LOVE the remote.

There is a feature that allows you to program your favorites... I keep saying that I am going to use it, but I just use my phone to look stuff up instead.
LOL,

Seems to be the growing trend on this subject Lora. Thank you so much for the feeback. I appreciate the response of how you love the PING. I am 90% sure that I am going to switch from the Minimed Paridgm to the Ping shortly, especially now that I hear about the new Animas pum the Vibe and the CGM.

Thank you so much again !!!
That is too funny b/c I could have said the same thing. I was always going to program my common meals and in the end I even stopped using the software all together. :o) I am just not the best person with the entire computer thing. The Endo that I'm trying end of the month downloads it all so I hope that will do.
It's very limited on what's included in the list, you can change that of course to include your favorites and what YOU eat, but it is nice once and a while to look up an oddball food item.
When the food data was in the pump (older models) I did use it.
Now that it is in the meter I dont.
And when I asked the other day if the older 2020 sold for a cheaper price, she said it was a bit cheaper but still came out the same with insurance.
Frankly, I dont care much for the Ping meter anyway and dont really need the feature.....
Hey there Laura,

Wow, I think that you are the first person that I have ran across that doesnt like the "Ping". Can you tell me what you dont like about it? Is there something in particular?
I love the pump, and the color screen. I think I will (would) like the meter better when the colored screen is released in the US. I think it is now in Canada,
The meter is kind of clunky though, and since I just wear my pump on jeans or skirt waist, I dont usually have the pump hidden. So I dont access the remote part of the whole deal.
I still carry an Ultra Mini in my purse, and keep my remote meter and another Mini meter in my house on both floors.
Dont get me wrong, everything works very very well and I love my Pink pump. The link between pump and meter just about always works, and I am a big One touch fan.
For the most part I like Animas too, I just wish they had a plan in place for people like myself who cannot afford a brand new pump!
The old Disetronic used to allow you to send in your expired pumps for technical inspection and then you had the option to purchase a 2 year waranty for very affordable. I really wish they still did this kind of stuff b/c insurances are going more and more towards not paying when your pump still functions which I can totally understand. I would not buy my daughter a new DS just b/c it's 4yrs old. However without waranty you are on your own and who wants to hook up a lifeline that isn't guaranteed... Oh how I miss Disetronic. I guess that is one of the reasons they went out of business. Too good of customer service. ha ha
Laure, you have to download it into your pump now. It's not just on the meter but there is a function in the software that allows you to put it back on the pump. I had it on and ended up taking it back off b/c I never use it. Not in the meter and not on the pump.
