I've only been a pumper for 2 months - so I'm a newbie.  I like the Ping but am not sure I like the insets.  I'm using the 9mm auto insets.  First, there is sooooooooooooooooo much disposable plastic involved (hurts my ecological self), second, I've ripped it out several times because of the high profile, and third, my very thin, fair skin starts getting irritated at 2.5 days, which affect absorption.

I have just now realized that I don't have to use the insets they gave me at the doc's office - so I would like to make some decisions before I have to order resupplies.  But I have no idea where to begin - what sets are compatible, which options would be best for my issues, what criteria should I use to choose, etc.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

I just ordered samples of both the orbit micros and the Animas Contact Detach. I will post back once I've used them!
Hello,

I also received a sample of the Contact Detach sets. I tried one out but found the adhesive isn't nearly as strong as the comfort inset contraptions, but it did get very sore after a few hours. I'm thinking it may have to do with where I placed it and how. Which leads me to me main question.

What do they mean by 1 handed insertion? Does that mean I just pop it right in without pinching my fat, or pinching my fat and then putting it in?
I have now used the Contact Detach sets enough to say - WHAT THE HECK WAS ANIMAS THINKING? Geez, just what I need - TWO THINGS attached to my body, and ANOTHER TUBE TO WORRY ABOUT KINKING (the one between the two). Animas sorely needs to come up with other steel options for their users. For now, even though they're not perfect, I MUCH prefer the Orbit micros.
I too am on a mission to find a new infusion set. We're using the Insets by Animas and have had too many troubles with bent cannulas and with the whole thing coming apart in my hands when I pull the adhesive off. Like Cheri, I think that the packaging is ridiculously excessive, as well, although we do recycle all that we can.

We tried the Orbit90s, and my daughter deemed those too painful upon insertion. I've ordered samples of the micros instead. I've also ordered Contact Detatch and Comfort from Animas.

I have on hand samples of Cleos and Inset 30s by Animas. (Yes, they managed to use even more packaging for these than for the Inset. Wa-hoo! Gold Cocoon Award!)

Surely somewhere in this mix is the right set for us.
Good luck with your search! I ended up getting hives from the Teflon so that narrows down what I can use. Animas sent me some sample Contact Detach - I really don’t like those but right now it is those or nothing. My sample Orbits came today but they didn’t send the stainless steel ones so I can’t try those out.
My daughter is just going to begin pumping within the next couple of weeks. How do you go about getting samples of Orbits. Being from Canada where do I call?
Hi Cindy -

On Page 1 of this discussion, Carleton offered the following about Canada:
Go to www.insulinpumps.ca which is the exclusive Canadian distributor owned by insulin pumpers, based in Mississauga, Ontario. They deal directly with the pharmacies and will get it to your pharmacy for you. Ask for Beth there. The Orbits are 25-30% less expensive than the others and are quite amazing...

Hope this helps,
Cheri
Thanks for your help Cheri - I just this moment emailed them.
