Florian, a bit late, but yes I find that larger boluses of novolog don't absorb well. The rare times I need a larger bolus I do combo over 1/2 hour or so.

NorCal, I echo what Zoe said. Congrats!

I just got my trial ping today, I have pumped with minimed for 9 years and there is a learning curve even after being a seasoned pumper. I am axious to see what I think at the end of my trial because it seems like so much work to learn a new system on this my first day.

Congratulations on your new Ping, NorCal! There is a fairly steep learning curve, but once you climb over that mountain you will love it. I got mine a year ago January and came on here several times with questions, so post away!

Rushed to the ER on 11/7/11 and thought to be a T2. My PCP had a feeling and after roughly 2 months and much more lab work, it was confirmed that I'm a T1 and therefore changed my insulin. Now after another 2 1/2 months of trying to manage MDI's with Novolog and Lantus, I was approved for the pump. The order will be sent in today and I'll be relearning the whole process again. Good thing I was paying attention as we were going along. I'm looking forward to this new chapter in the adventure.

1. Largest normal bolus: 5 units
2. NovoLog
3. 3 days, 4 if it's a great site and I have insulin left
4. Inset 30s, though I do want to try the regular Insets

I have been on the ping for 2 months and love it. It is so easy to use. And they gave me a good price on supplies. My TDD is 135-160.

One more thing since the pump cartridge holds 200U and my TDD is 30U, I put in a new cart and INSET every 5 days and sometimes 6. I am going to start changing infusion sites every 3 to 4 days.

Thanks for all of the good replies. I try to keep my Novolog bolus dose to 5 U or less. Larger doses of Novolog seem to take longer to absorb and are slower to cause a change in BS when I do a correction. Do any of you see or notice this difference between small and large blouses of insulin?
