Yes Zoe, I have a pump start meeting next Tuesday June 11th. I just had another meeting with my endo and she is so happy that I got my numbers in control. On april 6th my A1C was 11.4 and today it is 6.2 :). when I first saw her my 30 day average was 330 now it is 134. So this time next week I will have my Pump

My 11 year old got his first pump, the Ping, about 3 weeks ago. He's loving it. I love it. The Ping is super easy to use and the manual is thick. I especially like the remote which comes in very handy at night. Don't be nervous. It's a great tool. It forces you to really pay attention to Type 1 Diabetes which in my opinion is a must. Congratulations and enjoy your freedom that will come with pumping.

Congrats on your Ping, momof3. It is definitely a learning curve, so be prepared for a few weeks of working on getting things ironed out. I recommend you read the workbook online and then when you get your pump you will have the manual which you should go through in detail. I don't know if you are starting on saline or insulin. I was on saline for a week and I found that a good time to get used to all the buttons and settings. Do you have an appointment set up with a pump trainer?

Hi Everyone,
My insurance just approved me for the Ping, I am a first time Pumper and wonder how hard the pump is to use and get used to.
I should get my pump next week and I am really excited, but also kinda scared at the same time.
Any advice would be great.
Thanks

@DianaS
Thanks! Yeah, I might try to return my pump. Also, I was talking with an Animas rep. while shopping around to see if I should switch to a different pump system, and he was optimistic about the Vibe coming soon. He was saying about six or so months, with a $99 cost to upgrade from the Ping.

To Andrew I have always traded in my old pumps for a discount on my copay for the new one. Given that I've always had to have my pumps replaced under warranty at least twice during the warranty period with both Medtronic and Animas I personally wouldn't chose to use an older out of warranty pump as a backup.

I still have a year left on my warranty. I will be looking at both the Vibe and the Tslim. A lot will depend on what the integration with Dexcom looks like at the time I need to upgrade. If Animas can't figure out a way to integrate the remote and cgms then I'll most likely go with the Tslim. If Tandem is still a long ways out with integration I'll probably go with the Vibe. I would be perfectly happy with either pump.

Right now Tandem does not have a trade in program for old pumps and they haven't established what their upgrade prices/policy will be either. I personally would want to know that before committing to a new company.

If my pump was out of warranty today and still working I'd probably just wait for now and investigate my options, make a preliminary decision but not actually upgrade unless the pump malfunctioned. That way if it works long enough for the next generation pumps to come out you can change your mind if some new feature you really want has been added.

The warranty on my Animas PING is up and I am researching the new insulin delivery devices (pumps) that are available or waiting for FDA approval. I wish Animas would hurry up with the VIBE. I do like the tslim with its smart phone look. If you are also exploring and researching new pumps post what you find here so we all can see it. Thanks

my warranty just ran out. I'm waiting for a new animas model but if that doesn't happen by the end of the year I will likely switch to another brand.

Hey, all!

What do you guys do with your pumps after the four years are up?
