well, when my doc told me I'd need to bump my insulin dosages (again), I said "No, not yet" and began to act like a diabetic again by making better food choices & exercising. As we all know in our heart of hearts ... fun or not, it works! :] What many of us haven't realized is that, if we stick to it long enough we feel well enough that it becomes easier and easier ... and eventually we even begin to enjoy it!

Suzanne a hearty congratulations to you! That is fantastic news. I too was a completely out of control diabetic and spent a good period of time getting things back on track to achieve my goal - to get pregnant and carry a healthy baby. My son is 9 days old now and I feel soooo rewarded. If you want to have a read of my journey in pregnancy with T1 you can see a collection of posts on my blog here: http://www.beingdiabetic.co.nz/?s=pregnancy.

All the very best!

Jeff, that is so true! I think it is natural to want to just be "normal" and heck, diabetes can be so exhausting some times! It is very interesting to see at what point we became "born again" ... I imagine it is often times around the same point in all of our lives...

Hi Anngelia, You are an inspiration to us all!! It can be so hard at times to stay on track, but it has been an unbelievable help to know that I am not the only one who struggles, and I am not the only one who has to start all over and get back on track. Knowing that others, like you, have done it before me makes the process so much easier! Thank you!!

I have been a diabetic since 1970. As a kid I did everything I could to ignore the illness. I would skip my insulin until I couldnt even stand up and walk. I would go into the hospital every couple of years. How I did as well as I did is beyond me. But then in 1982 I got pregnant and I decided to grow up. I figured it was no longer all about me and there would be someone else depending on me. I did great while I was pregnant and only had to have my son delivered 2 1/2 weeks early. After that I decided to start taking things more seriously and I continued to take my insulin on a daily basis. I have been on a pump since 1999 and now test my bg 6 - 10 times a day. My latest A1c was 5.9 and I plan to keep it that good.

Hi! I just joined a day or two ago and I have been diabetic for over 10yrs. I was in my early twenties when I was diagnosed with type 2. Sadly I have never taken this disease seriously.. Didn't always take my meds, ate what I wanted when I wanted, hardly checked my sugars and hardly ever went in for my blood work. I always made an excuse. I think my poor attitude about diabetes stems from watching my mother grow up with it and she has the same attitude about it. The only time I have ever had excellent control was for about 1 yr when I was pregnant. Anyhow to make a long story short, I've "grown" up about the disease and I am ready to start dealing with it. I just hope that I haven't done any damage, and that I can resist those temptations out there.. Thanks for reading.
