TuDiabetes - A Community for People Touched by Diabetes

HI EVERYONE...GOOD NEWS....I AM REVERSING....I have been on Byetta for 18 months....started with Byetta 5mg for 6 weeks...then moved to 10mg....This week after several bad experiences with hypoglycemic episodes, my doc gave me the good news after reviewing my 18 month history and my current test.....I moved back to the 5mg........I have lost 48 lbs in 18 months....my body doesn't seem to need as large a dose to cope........YEAHHHHH....Byetta has been a godsend to me....I am insulin intolerant and don't take any other meds for my diabetes....I am feeling better than I have in 20 years....my hair and nails have finally become strong again....my skin doesn't itch anymore....my numbness in my toes is gone.....I realize we each have our own special conditions...but all I can say is don't give up hope and take it one day at a time....it all gets better as long as you stay positive....The Hypo incidents were hard, but it was my body giving me the heads up...so listening to your own body can only be smart....I come to this site for strength and support and greatly appreciate all the comments...

April 13, 2009.....Update: I am doing great. I am now able to walk a mile a day. Before Byetta I couldn't walk a city block without total exhaustion and dizzness making me fail. Since my previous post I have lost 3 more pounds. I am currently still on the 5mcg shots. I have moments of nausea only if I don't eat enough protein with my meal. So make sure your balancing your protein with your carbs. It will make you meal more enjoyable...afterwards that is. I hope everyone can feel the JOY I do now. Keep the Faith and Make your next meal your most important meal.

I'm so happy for you. The Byetta hasn't made me sick, and it also hasn't made me lose any weight. I sure wish it did!

Hi Jackie....Just thought I would check in and see how ur doing. If your be patient and take ur shots as prescribed, you should see some changes coming your way. I am doing real good. I just know that without faith and a positive outlook I would of gave up along time ago. So whatever I can give you as strength to keep your chin up I will. The most upfront thought to this day for me is trust in your physician and patience with your medications. But most of all you must take each meal as the most important one of your day. For it is that meal that will make you feel stronger or weaker. Don't make excuses, they are always a downfall on our health issues no matter the illness. So hang in there and YOU WILL FEEL BETTER SOON.

YIPPEE! I am finding the same results...I have NEVER had the BGS I have had since Byetta. I feel it's a miracle drug. I am still on Metformin (mostly to help with morning numbers), but I couldn't tolerate a higher dosage of Met, so Byetta has been a lifesaver for me. My cholesterol, BP, and other numbers are all back in normal range now after being able to manage my BG with Byetta. I have only lost almost 15 lbs since Christmas, but every pound counts! I'll celebrate with you!

Hi....I just wanted to check in and see how ur doing so far. Sounds like you were on a role. I am still doing great. Back on track after a minor dosage adjustment. The weight loss is slower, but I am feeling very grateful I am still losing.

You are living my dream. I started Byetta 5 two weeks ago. It's the only med I am on to lower my BS. I am hoping after another 15 lbs I won't need anything. I will start 10mcg after a month. So far it is working great for me. You are giving me hope that my goal is realistic. Thanks Joyce

Hi Joyce....Thought I would check in on how your doing. Sounds like your on the right track. Having a positive and hopeful attitude will take you along way. I didn't get as fast a weight loss with the 10mcg as with the 5. But no less I have been on the losing side all the way. Reverting back to the 5mcg was a rocky road, but all is well now. I too look forward to the day I don't need any meds. My Hope and Faith is what carries me through. My best advice for anyone on BS meds is to take each meal as the most important meal. It will either make or break your moment. So good luck and stay strong.

Hi Sue.....I thought I would see how ur doing. I assume your on the 5mcg shots. I want to encourage you to hang in there and do as your doc has adviced. Each person is different, but the majority on Byetta that I have shared with has always succeeded in losing some weight. Its not a constant side effect, but any can be only good for us. I just reverted back to the 5mcg after a year on the 10mcg shot. It was a rocky transition, but I am doing great. As your body changes and adjust so must your meds. My most important bit of info for you is to make each meal your most important. It will be the result of how you feel in the next moments of your life. So the choice to feel better rather than bad is up to you, not just the Byetta. Its only a tool to help us along our pathe to wellness. So keep your chin up and your focus on the now. It will make your life a more enjoyable one.

Good job. Shows there is hope. I have been taking 3 months ( 5mg) now and have dropped numbers but no weight. Steve

Hi Steve.....I am glad your hanging tough. Every person reacts differently to meds. That is the chemistry thing in our bodies.....but having Hope and a Positive outlook will surely help. Good to see your BS numbers are changing that is the main point. No matter what we weigh, if we feel really bad and can't function, life is miserable. Hopefully the Byetta will kick in its little weight loss surprise for you. Maybe if and when your doc moves you up to the 10mcg it will work better. Just knowing your fighting the diabetes is a great reward. My best advice is to focus on making your life more enjoyable and happy through making your body more comfortable and healthy. Sometimes these steps are tiny ones, but most important we take each one as best we can to keep us moving forward. I hope you all the strength and faith you need and make this day your best one yet. Good Wishes....PR
