Permalink Reply by Lorna Arndt Dahl on October 24, 2012 at 8:50am Hi I live in Donalda,Ab just a small community in central Ab.None of my children have diabetes so far just myself Type 1 brittle and my husband is Type 2.I pray daily a cure or at least a easier way to control it.I hope to get a insulin pump soon.
I live about 100 meters from the Pacific Ocean,on the False Creek seawall in Vancouver, BC and, for those familiar with the local terrain, between the south end of the Cambie bridge and Granville Island. I was diagnosed with type II in 1998 and attribute the fact that I've managed to keep blood sugar hba1c in the 5-6 range without any medications or insulin, at least in part to where I live. Number 1 it's a safe and beautiful area very condusive to walking at any time. It rarely snows and when it rains there is a covered stairwell under the bridge that's perfect for a workout. Number 2 there are lots of good food sources - including the Granville Island Public Market, Fisherman's Wharf, the Wholefoods store and numerous health food stores within easy walking distance. Number three, my healthcare providers, including specialists at the diabetes center at St. Pauls hospital, my GP and dietician are a short hop skip and jump away. When I moved here 22 years ago I didn't know that a future diabetes diagnosis was in the cards, but when that happened the location turned out to be ideal.
