I was prescribed Lantus on Monday, and my endo gave me an Autopen. I had heard there is another pen called something like Opticlick or Optipen that uses Lantus, but they had never heard of it at Shoppers Drug Mart and said that as far as they knew, Autopen was it.

Now I am wondering if Autopen is the only one available in Canada, or the only one available in B.C., or the only one available at Shoppers Drug Mart. Do any of my fellow Canadians use Lantus with a pen that is not Autopen?

Lily makes a pen that I used for my Lantus when I was on it....
It's NOT the solostar one, it's beautiful and very upper-class
I wish I had more info about it, but I got rid of it when I started pumping.
It had a hard velour case and it was either ivory or mauve

I am using the "SoloStar" disposable pen....I just went on it a couple days ago from using a vial and syringe. I think it is absolutely fantastic...the most amazing thing is that you can go backwards on it!!!! Hooray for not wasting insulin anymore like my other pens!

I was using the old autopen, plastic and the numbers wore off. My endo is doing a research study on a new opticlick, which works, like a pen should. Unfortunately, once the trial is over I'll have to give it back and might have to wait 6 months for the red tape to clear it. In the meantime I'll switch to solostar, which I was avoiding for the waste issues, but it's just so much better to use than the autopen.

I just got an email from my endo's research assistant about what is probably the same study. I'm going: "What do you mean, I have to give it back????" I guess you see Dr. Miller too.

I've been using my Autopen on my kitty, but her dosage is so small I really need to do single units for her. I may have to start buying syringes just for the kitty.
