I have started a petition to gain more support in BC to have PharmaCare expand its pump program to include diabetics of all ages, not just children. In doing so, our healthcare system will save $5.3 MILLION/YR by the year 2032. With the significant cost pressures facing our province, we really cant afford to shove this off any longer. Please support my petition by signing it. Diabetes is a hard enough and expensive enough condition to control and its really a win-win scenerio (save money and better health for those of us that could benefit from a pump).
I hope this link works: http://www.change.org/en-CA/petitions/british-columbia-ministry-of-...
If not, I will try and fix it. Thanks for your support! BJ (T1D 22 yrs, pumping 13 yrs)
I really think its one thing to say "it will save money" but last year the CDA finally figured out just how MUCH money... $5.3 MILLION/YR may not sound like a lot in a province like ours, but it will continue to grow as time passes and why continually have programs that are costing tax payers money when we can have some that will save.
Also, please share this petition through email or social networking sites such as twitter and facebook. The more people that know its there, the better. Thank you!

An added suggestion is to visit your MLA's office regularly especially when a Provincial Election is near !
Canadian Diabetes Association's website www.diabetes.ca shows the Novo Scotia Petition for pumps fof kids .
Joey maybe you could start one for Quebec ?? I would sign the Quebec petition !!!
Permalink Reply by Joey on February 21, 2013 at 7:44am I heard that within 5 years Quebec would be funding pumps for adults. Of course, they had to spend many millions of dollars and use many years of time to do their own "studies" to see if there was proof that the pump reduced health complications and costs before they would give approval for the pediatric pump program. Quebec: always reinventing the wheel. It would have been too simple to just rely on 40 years of data from countless studies and countries. I guess they want to see the outcome of the pediatric program before funding an adult program. I doubt if a petition will work in Quebec. When my 11 year old hits 18, he will still be able to use the program because if you started in the pediatric program, you can continue even into adulthood. Hopefully by then it won't be an issue.
Permalink Reply by BJ on February 23, 2013 at 9:51pm If they will fund you through adulthood if you started in the pediatric program, then it only makes sense to fund ALL adults with T1D. What governments also dont understand is that some health insurance providers pay for pumps and pumps aren't for everyone, so its only those that do not have insurance coverage or that would be suited for a pump that they would need to pay for. Its really pretty marginal when you think about it.
I started a Facebook page some time ago to connect with others hoping to make this a priority and to network with people for this cause. I am so tired of feeling like a burden on a system for something outside my control. Its about time that they listen and use some common sense rather than simply saying "we already pay for enough" (which is the position that BC has taken). Meanwhile, they spend on other nonessentials and I just dont get it!
Please if everyone could sign this petition and also share it with your friends and family, I would be eternally greatful. Its not about having a "special interest" or "advocating" (which sounds like you're asking for something that will forever cost them money)... its about stepping up and doing the RIGHT THING after years of putting it off.
