Yesterday was the closing day for submissions to ICOKE...I am now waiting to find out , if the icoke judges find my Active Living story inspiring enough , to give me chance to carry the torch ...a one in a life time experience. Another chance to be choosen is through the Royal Bank ...
No one responded to the May 29 post ...does this mean lack of ??

i so hope you get to carry the torch!! you deserve too!! as soon as i read your orginal post i was cheering for you to get a position!! let us know what they decide!!

Amanda, you definitely are MY favourite supporter , ha, ha ...want to turn into a Canadian Pastry Chef ??? And I plan to update the TU community , if I am choosen to carry the Olympic torch here in my community ...will even update if NOT choosen ;-( ...will know more end July , 2009 . Stay tuned !!

I received a call yesterday from the office of my MLA ( Member of the Legislative Assembly ) , Victoria, BC .George's ( as he wants to be called ) assistant asked if I had signed up and if I was still interested ...I sounded like an eager beaver , when I told her , that I want to carry the torch in my community !!! ...that's all she wanted to know . Will my MLA nominate me ?...I never asked ...thought to just leave that one alone .

Update ...received another call yesterday ...it is official : I am nominated by MLA George Abbott ...next VANOC
( Vancouver Olympic Committee ) will do a security check on me and will communicate with me, when the check is complete ...I tell you : I am as secure as heaven knows.

Have any other TU Canadians applied ???

Another tidbit of information : Coca-Cola Canada's Red Ribbon panel , who will choose some of the parcipants , compromised of the following Health , Wellness and Environmental organizations : Canadian Diabetes Association , Canadian Society of Exercise Physiology, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada , ParticipAction , WWF-Canada , VANOC, Dr. K .Kellie Leithch , Advisor to health Canada on Healthy Children and Youth .

Dear Amanda ...where have you been ...making too many wedding cakes ?
I called someone in the government , who knows about the TORCH 2 weeks ago ...and told her, that I had not heard about a follow up ; the lady said wait till mid August ( and I thought it was to be in July , oh well ) ...so any time ?? Stay tuned !

The news is out and the excitement is mounting : I will be carrying the Torch on Jan 27 , 2010 here in Salmon Arm , BC for 300 meters , no doubt a COOL day . All the checkings came through Security and my uniform has beeen ordered by VANOC. Husband and I decided to purchase the Torch , which I will carry ,as an ever lasting memory .
I have learned of at least 2 other people , who will do this proudly .More on the list no doubt .
I will go to my MLA's office tomorrow and thank him !!... I am so excited . My involvement with the CDA , participating in Team Diabetes events etc. etc. has had a bearing on being choosen ...never in my wildest dreams .
