Children and adults with type 1 diabetes MAY qualify for a Federal and Provincial Disability Tax credit.
I could not find a discussion on this topic ...so here goes : I found on the Childrens Hospital , Vancouver , BC 's website : dtcdiab.pdf( 69KB ) ....I am the gal , that does not know much about computers, so I hope you are able to open this without problems, alternatively google BC Childrens Hospital Vancouver, link to Endocrinology & Diabetes Unit , Diabetes handouts, Especially for parents and caregivers. The CDA website , under advocay has a heading as well .
I have successfully applied in the past , however my GP did not complete the form correctly for 2007 tax year and I was denied...I have more home work to do for the coming tax year. My Specialist said, that she will sign the form , so I am optimistic( as a pumper and CGM user ) .

Edit, December 19, 2010.

...According to the posting I added :  Registered Disability Savings Plan is dependent on qualifying for the DTC .

Edit , Jan . 14, 2011 with thanks to Jimmy !! ...the link to the printable form ; please note it states , one cannot save the form on the computer

Edit( thanks Peetie for the ASK ) : May 26, 2012 T2's on MDI/insulin pumping and testing intensively may qualify

As a re-reminder, this web site shows you how to fill out the form.

I love her web site.

I just wanted to let everyone know that i am type 2 and have been on a insulin pump since Jan 2012 (omnipod) and I just received my letter back that my DTC has been approved. Yay... i do not have to reapply until 2018 :) for me it was a very smooth process. I filled in the personal information on the forms and my Endo did the rest. It did take about 2 months to hear back though.

Congrats!! I'm happy to hear that yours went smoothly. It does take a bit to come back but in the end, is worth the wait. It bothers me to hear that people are trying to scam the system and making it harder for those of us that genuinely qualify. Anyhow, congrats and thanks for the update. BJ

When did you apply? I applied for our son and was denied but have sent another letter from our specialist. I am guessing the specialist filled out the original form incorrectly. She put in counting carbs...ugh!!!

Betsy ...apologies ...I missed your comment ..am not sure who your question was toward ...I applied at least 6 years ago .I added my comment to the other discussion about same topic " I looked at Betsy's profile and read that her child was diagnosed much less than one year ago( March 19, 2012 ) ...may this have something to do with her and Rev. Canada's concerns since it is not a full year ??? A question to ASK Rev Canada ??"

For those, who have never applied ...maybe you like to consider ?? Tu Members Barb Wagstaff http://www.diabetesadvocacy.com/ and BJ Clancy has a discusssion posted : Help for anyone wanting assistance with the T2201 DTC forms
with lots of info available

Thank you all for mentioning this DTC. If it wasn't for TruD I would never have known about it. I have spread the word to other pumpers here in Ontario that I know and they didn't know either. I emailed my ENDO team as I am in constant contact with them right now since I started on the pump this March. They in turn had copies of this form and sent it to my Endo Dr to fill out for me. It will be ready to pick up next time I go in which should be in May. Now whether it will be back dated or not I am not sure...I'm type 1 and was on insulin shots for over 16 years. This part remains to be seen.

Dolly , initially only pump users were qualifying( 2001 ) ..in 2004 this was changed to PWD on MDI . And note Edit of 2012 : type 2 PWD on MDI have qualified ...What it takes is a min of 14 hours weekly to manage one's diabetes , excl shopping , exercise etc etc. Visit Barb's website at http://www.diabetesadvocacy.com/ I received back dated $$ to 2001 , when I started pumping and applied in 2006 .Hope you may qualify back to 2004 and that you have a taxable income !! ha, ha don't spent the $$ till you see it .You may want to look into http://www.hrsdc.gc.ca/eng/disability/savings/index.shtml

Oh the income is there...and heavily taxed. I get to go home to rub my 2 pennies together!! lol
I will keep you all posted on how the DTC process goes for me...and how quickly!

anyone need help applying for this let me know. i 've been on it since 2001 when i was eligable. i know what to do and what to write on the forms to help you prove the 14 hours you need.
