TuDiabetes - A Community for People Touched by Diabetes

Nel Peach was commenting on a blog I wrote today (about walking) and told me about a free pedometer that is being offered at Space Canada. I just went to the website and filled out what is required in order to get the pedometer. One thing I noticed - is you can either sign up as an individual - which is what I did - but they also you can sign up as a group. Hmmm, maybe all of us Canadian Tudiabetes could sign up as a group?

It looks like a bit of fun and you get to cover the distance from Earth to the International Space Station which is a total of 340 kilometers. So, join Canadian Astronaut Robert Thirsk in his fitness activity !! As Nel said - "nothing kinky is involved in this endeavour ...just some sweat here and there , ha, ha".

Thanks Nel for telling us about this!!!

UPDATE: According to the "fine print" - just noticed this after logging in with my username/password - only the first 10,000 people will receive the pedometer. Not sure what number I am - but hopefully I'm one of those that gets the pedometer - otherwise I'll be using my noggin' to count my steps (good way of preventing dementia/Alzheimer's).

good stuff Anna , thanks for posting and we are on our way to the Space Station ...I did receive the free pedometer ...could NOT getting it to work , till my Brother suggested to pull the little piece of plastic away from the battery area...voila !!( not very techy ) I use my record of weekly 1/2 marathon training , add and add a few extra kilometers of all the non - weekly recorded steps as dog walking , stair walking etc. ...lets have fun and join Robert Thirsk . The picture of the pamphlet with the pedometer shows Robert and his Mom at the Vancouver, BC , sea wall ...I have logged a few steps there, when living on the coast :-)

You're not kidding. I haven't yet had a chance to log in my walking - as I don't have a pedometer (not sure if I'll get one - but doesn't matter). I may have to carry my hand held GPS with me so I can log my walking (plan to do a big hike around Montreal on Wed - walk to the one clinicthat I refuse to go to anymore due to them only see people with digital mammograms - and I can't afford $350 CDN for that - pick up my all medical records - then trek half way across Mont Royal to where another breast surgeon is. This all has to be done before my 09h30!!! I hope I have time to sit and have a cafe along the way (pass a few nice ones along the walk). I'm hoping it's not raining that day - like it has been lately - otherwise I'll be one soaked .... Fat Cat
