Letter to the Editor,
British Columbians urged to share their stories
for Diabetes Awareness Month
With more than nine million Canadians living with diabetes or prediabetes, including 360,000 British Columbians, chances are, many Canadians know someone living with the disease.
To mark Diabetes Awareness Month, the Canadian Diabetes Association has introduced the “What a Cure Means to Me” campaign. The goal is to give a voice to people living with diabetes in communities all across the country. Throughout the campaign, Canadians will be encouraged to:
1) Share their diabetes stories at http://whatacuremeans2me.com
2) Share their “What a Cure Means to Me” Facebook page with friends, family and online communities to raise awareness and funds
3) Support Diabetes Awareness Month activities in their local communities
4) Participate in local door-to-door campaigns as volunteers or donors
My diagnosis of diabetes in 1983 led me to a wonderful journey that I would not have ever imagined. A cure to diabetes would mean to me...Freedom to pursue life without complications of dealing with diabetes
Diabetes Awareness Month provides an opportunity for us to connect with our community of more than nine million Canadians who live with diabetes or prediabetes. I encourage people to visit the website to register, and then post a story from now until November 30, 2012, to be eligible to win great prizes. It is through these stories that we can shed light on this serious disease.
Nel Peach, living with type 1 diabetes
Please feel free to share .
