Carb Counting by Example

Correct carb counting is very important. The members of this group can present pictures of their meals and the estimated carb counts. This way we can improve our judgement and learn to overcome common mistakes by sharing our experiences.

Some hints

- the more this group grows the more people will orient themselves to people with similar eating habbits. Thus I think it is better to have one discussion per day and person called like 'Person - Date - Day'. So if I am interested what Holger eats at Sundays I could for example search for 'Holger Sunday' in this group. Following this concept every meal of the person at that day is a reply to the discussion the person started.

- if you want to post your meals just occasionally then you can create a discussion called 'Person - my eating habbits' or something like that. There you can add every meal you have eaten in one place.

- unless the TuDiabetes team recommends otherwise the image size is 1024x768 as jpg.

- every eating style is welcome here. The focus is not healthy eating but pure carb counting with fun.

Visit www.integrateddiabetes.com, click on Resources, and then choose
Innovative stuff.  The link to the carb quiz is at the bottom of the page.
Take the test by yourself, with a group, or with the assistance of your
friendly neighborhood dietitian.  Write down your answers and e-mail them
(with subject line “Carb Contest”) to Integrated Diabetes Services’
Director of Lifestyle & Nutrition (and self-proclaimed guru of carb
counting) Jennifer Smith:   Jennifer@integrateddiabetes.com.   Be sure to
include your full name, e-mail and phone number.  Jenny will score your

where your strengths/weaknesses lie.

The contest is open through May 31st, 2014.  In early June, the TOP 3
SCORERS will be contacted to receive $50 gift certificates to the
restaurant of their choice.  They will also have the opportunity to be
interviewed and introduced as a Carb Counting King/Queen in an upcoming
“Thinking Like A Pancreas” Blog (integrateddiabetes.com/blog/)

I really have problems knowing how many carbs to eat in a meal. If I cut down on them too much I get light headed, if I eat too many carbs I feel funny too. Any way of judjeing amount?

hi group :) I'm still in my "honeymoon" phase so I don't use much insulin for now but I admit that the thought of carb counting in the future scares me a little (so much to think about), so I thought I'd get used to the idea by joining :)

Hi there, I'm new to this group and could do with some help. I was diagnosed as a type 2 four years ago but have never fitted snugly into that category so I pushed for more tests and after a very long haul got them. I've now been re-diagnosed as type 1 which means that I have to be much more in control of my carbs. I saw a dietician today and she wants me to stay between 45 and 60 carbs per meal. I do have a little idea about calorie counting, but don''t have a lot of time to prepare meals and I was wondering if anyone has tried ready made diabetic meals that you can order through Jenny Craig and such places and are they cost effective and worth buying, or are they a waste of money?
