Carb Counting by Example

Carb Counting by Example

Correct carb counting is very important. The members of this group can present pictures of their meals and the estimated carb counts. This way we can improve our judgement and learn to overcome common mistakes by sharing our experiences.

Some hints

- the more this group grows the more people will orient themselves to people with similar eating habbits. Thus I think it is better to have one discussion per day and person called like 'Person - Date - Day'. So if I am interested what Holger eats at Sundays I could for example search for 'Holger Sunday' in this group. Following this concept every meal of the person at that day is a reply to the discussion the person started.

- if you want to post your meals just occasionally then you can create a discussion called 'Person - my eating habbits' or something like that. There you can add every meal you have eaten in one place.

- unless the TuDiabetes team recommends otherwise the image size is 1024x768 as jpg.

- every eating style is welcome here. The focus is not healthy eating but pure carb counting with fun.

I really have problems knowing how many carbs to eat in a meal. If I cut down on them too much I get light headed, if I eat too many carbs I feel funny too. Any way of judjeing amount?

Hi everyone! I'm new to thsi group. Been a type 1 diabetic for 4 and a half years now and still struggling with my carb counting. Looking forward to learning anything my fellow teammates can teach!!

hi group :) I'm still in my "honeymoon" phase so I don't use much insulin for now but I admit that the thought of carb counting in the future scares me a little (so much to think about), so I thought I'd get used to the idea by joining :)

Hi there, I'm new to this group and could do with some help. I was diagnosed as a type 2 four years ago but have never fitted snugly into that category so I pushed for more tests and after a very long haul got them. I've now been re-diagnosed as type 1 which means that I have to be much more in control of my carbs. I saw a dietician today and she wants me to stay between 45 and 60 carbs per meal. I do have a little idea about calorie counting, but don''t have a lot of time to prepare meals and I was wondering if anyone has tried ready made diabetic meals that you can order through Jenny Craig and such places and are they cost effective and worth buying, or are they a waste of money?

I found a fabulous piece of resouce that runs on Android smartphones called simply "Calorie Counter" It is free (with very small unobtrusive ads at the bottom of the screen or you can pay to get rid of them. The program logs into The point is that this is one of the most complete food databases I have ever come across. It includes raw foods, restaurant and chain foods, popular consumer brands and supermarket brands. There is no need to type with my Droid X as the voice recognition functions almost perfectly with this app. Just speak the name of the food and tap the search button. Once the "food" is entered the Droid brings the information up almost instantly and has a simple routine for adjusting the portion size to get exact values. The software even reads bar codes. I use the "lookup" feature all the time. It presents all the food values including "carbs" so it is great for us. If you want to further manage your diet there are routines for keeping a food diary, exercise diary, a diet calender, and a weight tracker. This is very sophisticated feature-rich software. I did not open an account on the parent website but that is free also. I am sure there are other analysis tools available plus a social community like ours.
