all of this looks very good, but what i diet sugar? artificial sweetener?
Kat, I should have used the word artificial sweetener, the only time I use the stuff ...cereal and jogurt : old school me talking ...it is NutraSweet ...thanks
Definitely not low in carbs that us for sure. I would guess 60g for the cereal, 10g for the apple, 10g for milk and desert. 80g => 21 units of NovoRapid. Just too dangerous for my taste.
60g for the cereal sounds like a lot. Oats has only 50% carbs and about 10% fiber, which I have to subtract whenever I eat it, or I will end up low. I would guess 30g for the cereal and maybe 5g for the milk. My total would be 50g. That's 10 units for me.
Kat, I received this handout from a nutritionist on how to calculate fiber. I'd appreciate any thoughts you or anyone else has on it.

Hi Ryan,
normally I don't care about the fiber, because my postprandials are okay, if I just count the carbs. Oat seems to be an exception for me, maybe because it has such a high percentage of fiber. When I eat it I have to subtract all of the fiber from the carb count, not just half of it. It really is different for everyone. Some people on this site always subtract the fiber (all of it or just half) and a lot of people don't. The handout from your nutritionist can be a guideline, but you'll have to find out what works best for you.

There are also pepole like Danny in this group that count protein and fat and bolus for it, because a percentage of it gets turned into glucose. See this post for an example. Personally I wouldn't want to bring my calculator to every meal, glucose meter and insulin are more than enough. ;)

I hope that helps,
Kat
Danny ...too funny ...I tend to agree with you ...I had a quesedilla , while at a Mexican restaurant in Palm Desert , this past holiday ...the thing tasted delicious , however the tortilla seemed to have a lot of fat on it ...I ended up with a HI about 2-3 hours later ...several reasons likely ...should have added more insulin and a longer dual wave delivery ...the joys of eating out .
Holger and Kat ...here is how I arrived at my eyeballing number : 48 for the oats ..( prep'd with 1/2 H2O and 1 percent milk ) measure : ..1/2 cup ...calculated the fiber , 10 apple, 14 milk , 7 jogurt .. total could be 79 grams ??
My carb ratio for breakfast is 1 : 25 ; If I do my exercise following I take .3 u less for the movements . My TDD is an 31 day average of 21.40 u ( pump says so !) . I really should be training harder for my May 30 th 1/2 Marathon and when I do basal goes down to 45 percent. Do I ride in our vehicle for over 1 hour, I need to add temp basal and use 165 percent .Sensitive to insulin : YES and sensitive to not getting enough as well ...just a sensitive gal :-) And above all ...willing to learn !! My 4 am basal rate is set as the lowest number of the daily total basal dose .
Are we all different or what ?
Lunch out ...treat ...to the dentist , who checked

out my implant of 6 years . 55 grams of carbs : Chicken quesedilla, house salad with candied walnuts, shredded apple , feta cheese, plain dressing , H2O to drink ...took 6 small french fries from hubby's plate .
Yummy! 5g per bread slice = 30g, cheece and dressing = 10g, candied walnuts = 10g, apple, fries and cup with side order = 20g. Total: 70g
I did not consume all the nuts( were they good !) and some flat bread left , sour cream in side dish , major part left , salsa almost all consumed ...I think your estimation of shredded apple , fries and cup with side order is high ( 20 ) , also cheese and dressing a high estimate ( 10 ) ..I like to stick to the 55 g ...any one else out there with different numbers .?? A good reason for me to eat the meal again and follow up ....fun game !!
