TuDiabetes - A Community for People Touched by Diabetes

I live in Canada, where the Dexcom is not yet available. I am thinking of buying one in the US, but want to know if the unit can be programmed to display in mmol vs. mg/dL. I can't find this information on-line but thought someone here might know?

I'm not sure about this, but if you will be buying it without insurance, then be sure to contact them about their "Cash programs". I know that there is a discount available for people buying it without insurance until the end of June (but may be others in the future).

I emailed this address:
customerservice@dexcom.com

and asked for info. I received a prompt reply with this info:
"Thanks for contacting us about the cash program. We have a promotion going on through the end of June to get the new Seven PLUS and a free box of sensors for $799. Retail price for the Seven PLUS is $1248 and sensors retail for $399. If you pay cash, even for the sensors ongoing, the sensors per box is $275."

You can email the same address asking about the mmol. I found their customer service very helpful!!!

Dear Graeme,

I saw your question and wanted to clarify for you that the DexCom Seven Plus available in the USA cannot be converted to display in mmol/L as two of my UK diabetes patients actually have bought their DexCom Seven kits in the States and have shared with me exactly this finding.

it is a good device and I am sure will become very popular once it comes to the UK in late 2009. It will be interesting to see whether it will stand against the competition from the Navigator 1.5, which we have in the UK (have had as the original Navigator since June 2008). The Navigator 1.5 is a true tool to get to grips with your glucose vagaries; I find its accuracy extremely satisfactory - I am using it a lot even in pregnant ladies through their labour, in tiny tots, as well as for my own daughter who has T1DM.

I hope you find your 'best' CGM - if you really want a pump + CGM Combo - come & get kitted and trained in London - we have the Medtronic Paradigm Veo just launched 1st June! 9 of my patients have bought it already! Going like hot cakes! It switches off insulin delivery for 2 hours as soon as the sensor (6-day sensor!) predicts a low that you can predetermine yourself.

Kindest wishes,

Laila

*shakes fist*
my minimed sales rep was making fun of me for asking about the european pumps just yesterday...
can you tell me anything about the new sensor? is the needle any smaller, or is the transmitter any different? and have they released new paradigm sites in the UK? i think the new sites are going to go by the name MIO here in the US (i'd LOVE to see photos if you have any, google image wasn't too helpful)
