i recently began using this CGM unit.i do like it but find that insertion of the sensor stings and leaves black and blue skin areas after removal in 5 days. can anyone suggest ways to avoid this and to ease the insertions. thanks, gary

Sorry to hear about that. I am using the same CGM and haven't had that experience since switching to the arms (triceps.) Are you using the abdomen or arms? I used the abs a few times at the beginning and had some bruising once. I began running out of space with CGM sensors and pump infusion sites so I stopped. No problems for me with the arms, so maybe that will help you.
As for the stinging, well, that spring-loaded thing does pack quite a bite. Maybe you can ice the site and numb it a little bit in advance.

greg, thanks for the reply. i am using abdomen sites. i thought about the arms but that seems a little awkward. anyway, it seems to be better each time. maybe i`m just used to it or just a little better at it each time.i`m not on a pump, so i`ll keep trying --or switch to the arms if necessary. do you have your computer software yet? i don`t. gary

Hey Gary,

I have the software and the bluetooth and all that, but I got them from the JDRF study that I was in. It took a long time to download data from the Navigator and sometimes it didn't seem to work that well at all. But once it downloads the software is pretty intuitive and you can create some pretty interesting graphs and charts. Very helpful, and it helped show some trends I wasn't aware of.
I resisted going to the arms at first, but I saw that the Team Type One cyclists who wore the Navigators and Omnipods when racing used their arms so I tried it. I realized how close I turn corners at home when I bumped the transmitter a few times, but now I'm used to it. It isn't tough to put the site in (not like the days I used to give myself shots in the arm.)
Now the problem is that it looks like I have mother of all nicotine patches taped to my arm.

I wish I could help you, I have the same monitor, however I can't even get mine to stay on for 5 days so far! :(

Hey try some Hy-Tape or 'pink tape.' People with ostomy bags use this tape because it sticks even when applied under water. I've been using it for 6 months now and it's the only tape that will stay for 6 days and not give me hives.
