What is the most insensitive thing someone at church has said to you regarding diabetes?
Mine was "You just need to have more faith. Then God will heal you of your diabetes."

Where is that written in the bible? Sad thing was that stupid comment caused me to question my faith for about a year.

Autumn, I got exactly the same comment.

This person had a wife who had gestational diabetes. They prayed very hard and had a priest lay hands on her and her diabetes disappeared after she gave birth (as it does in many cases of gestational!).

Based on this experience, they told my husband that the only reason that I still have diabetes is because I don't believe that I can be cured. It's a good thing that I wasn't there cause I would have LOST IT!

I DO believe that miracles are possible-- things that go beyond what we think is possible. But expecting that God wants exactly what I want (no diabetes) is not realistic. Life and God are just not that simple!
Amen to that!

Great outlook, very inspiring words!! :)

Autumn, I have not had anyone say anything insensitive to me about diabetes in my church But I know that I believe God will heal me if He wills and if not He will help me with controllinf it I have been type 1 diabetic for 31 years and have no major complications except for the hypoglycemia unawareness which is quite dangerous in my job. I am a home daycare provider for 7 kids and I have had really severe lows and I know that God has His protection over me because I never passed out and my husband called and told me what to do! that is devine intervention If God chooses not to heal me then that is ok,too but just havinf Faith in aa God who loves me is enough I know there is a purpose in my diabetes I have helped people understand diabetes more in the past because of my experience! how about you? one thing more I always tell my Endo that God will cure me sopmeday and she always looks s baffled and asks me to please not stop taking my insulins! but she knows I believe God!
Really? That's amazing that you've never had an insensitive comment at church.
I got my comment while I was in high school, just beginning to truly understand that I am God's Beloved Child. That's why it rocked my faith so much.

I see God's hand in how he's cared for me since I've had diabetes. Providing health insurance at every job I've ever had, getting new insurance when I was finally ready for a pump, providing me with a wonderfully supportive husband.
And yet there are days when my numbers are out of control that I want to ask God why he always has to use diabetes to get my attention. It must be because using my diabetes helps me get the point faster. I mean nothing reminds me that I'm totally dependant on Him faster than a nasty low or a nauseating high.
Autumn; aorry to hear about the insensitive remarks at church but remember that even though people are christians they are still humans and tend not to think when we open our mouths! All that is important id Gods word to us and Hisview of us!
Mary Ann,
You will be cured someday..that is the day that you meet Jesus face to face! Amen! I have a friend suffering with breast cancer right now and watching her go through it and her faith in God is SO strong....she knows that God is using her for a purpose and her realtionship with God is so strong. She is truly an inspiration to me. She causes me to look at my circumstances so much differently...and to know that God is there with me and her all the way and someday we will live in peace with God forever...this time on this earth is such a small part of the big picture! I am so thankful that the Holy Spirit is their with me and living in me to help me deal with day to day life with D.
That is something we have to keep in mind. No matter how much suffering, pain, sorrow we have here on earth, one day Christ will wipe away our tears and we will have no more sickness, pain, or death. I am looking forward to seeing my Savior and just falling at his feet and worshiping him forever and forever.
you have got to be kidding me...I can't believe someone said that to you! I am a strong believer in Pray and God will never put more on anyone than they can bare...I think we all have to through a struggle in life and ours happens to be diabetes. God has blessed man to be able to control diabetes. Plus, you only have to have faith the size of a Mustard seed!

I was diagnosed with diabetes about a year ago. In addition to being a diabetic I am also a Baptist minister. I am extremely blessed to have a great support group in my church. There are a number of fellow diabetics that give me so much support that you would not believe it.

All we have to do is look at the example of 2 great men in the Bible that God allowed Satan to have his way with, at least to a certain point, their lives. Job was a great man, a man full of faith, but Satan still touched his family, wealth and even his health. Another example was Paul, who had a thorn in the flesh, usually thought to be his eyesight. God still used these men due to their great faith, not the lack of faith. God did eventually heal and bring Job back to where he was before his test, but Paul had to deal with it the rest of his life.

Who knows, maybe diabetes was a cause of part of his vision problems.
Those examples of people in the bible who had health issues are great. It shows that sometimes the Lord will heal and sometimes he won't heal but what ever the reason it's to glorify Him. I suspect the comment about God using D to get our attention and to remember to count on His strength not ours is another very good comment. We are a stubborn people and the Lord is so merciful and gives us grace to face each day. I can think of so many times that He has saved me from MYSELF and protected me.
Well, someone close to me, said something that shocked me. It wasn't in a church setting, but it was like WOAH. She was talking to a group of kids and was like "Now, don't eat too much candy/sweets. You don't want to end up with diabetes." Hold the phone. I was only like 13 at the time, too. It just shocked me that anyone would have a misconception that out there about diabetes.
