I'm not sure what to think. We just started the Cozmo this past December. Ironically, we were using a Minimed before. If we continue to use until the end of the warrenty, we'll be one of the last supported users. 3 years + 8 months to go. Do we need to worry about the availability of supplies further down the road?

Is anyone else looking into the Medtronic offer?

Hi Mark, I'm a Cozmo user and am looking into the Minimed offer -- talked with a rep today. I'm considering it not so much out of fear about future support/supplies (though that is a factor), but seeing it as an opportunity to go ahead and shift to pump + CGM + better data mgmt tool (Carelink that supposedly integrates all the data). I can get the pump and CGM for free if I send in my Cozmo and complete a total of 5 surveys (1 for the CGM, and 4 for the pump). My ins will cover the CGM supplies at 80%, which equates to me paying approx $70/month if I use them all the time.

One issue on the pump is that MM is only offering a 2 yr warranty. The rep indicated some flexibility on that, but definitely something to verify if your ins will only pay for a pump every 4 yrs. As for the availability of supplies, I don't know the answer.

Do you mind sharing why you switched from MM to Cozmo? Were you on the paradigm real time w/ cgm?

My son was on the MM for 4+ years (Kindergarden through 4th). We were not using the CGM feature for reasons that it did not eliminate finger pokes, and, it would have required another insertion. We went to the Coz primarily because of the missed meal bolus alarm and the is waterproof.

The big lesson I learned when switching is that while they are Coz and MM are both insulin pumps, things are just different. Procedures are different. Some of the terminolgy is different. The first couple weeks are a bit rough while you figure out all the in's and out's of the new system. Good luck with your decision.

I went from the paradigm to the Cozmo. For me it was customer service and the way it delivers insulin. The MM delivers with a formulary. The more you use the more often you get insulin. My BRs are soo small that it worked out to be only every 12minutes and it actually created issues for me...

We're in the same boat, Mark. I started my Cozmo in July after using a Minimed for the 8 years prior. Have you decided what you're going to do yet?

I'm not eligible for a discounted Paradigm because my Cozmo warranty expired in February. I'm going to research purchasing other pumps but feel a bit in fear about other pumps companies' potential for failure, especially since it doesn't seem like the recession is ending anytime soon. I'm comforted that Animas sells supplies for the Cozmo. I'll contact that company Monday. Any suggestions?

my insurance wont pay for cgms i have a cozmo will they still send me pump? i have only had my pump for 4 weeks and i believe i got the last one.

Hi Patrick, yes, Minimed is offering the pump to Cozmo users without the CGM. That portion does not even go through insurance. However, they are only offering a 2 yr warranty on it. The rep I spoke with offered some flexibility on that, so you might want to give them a call if you're interested to see what they will do.

Turns out in my case they have "verified" my insurance coverage for the CGM, quoted me co-pays on supplies, and figured out what my ins. will "normally" pay on the CGM. But, now they are hedging saying insurance has to approve my specific case. So we will see. The pump is set to arrive at my house today, but I'm not planning on opening/using it until I get a final answer on the CGM portion. It's the CGM that sold me on this deal. Otherwise I'm reluctant to change and may stick with my Cozmo 'till the warranty is up in a couple of years.

The OmniPod company also is offering a Starter Kit plus one month of Pods for $49.95 I think it was. I still have 3boxes of Animas catheters but I will upgrade to the Pod. I used to be on the MM paradigm and really liked it but I'm wanting to try the entire tubing free way of pumping insulin. I also have a DexCom so the MM isn't that much more appealing with the CGM.... Go see the OmniPod site and there is a tab that sais for Deltec users.

Omnipod and Animas have transitional deals for Cozmo users, too. Make you sure you check them out, everyone. Those are direct links to the deals!
