I just completed the Rapha Festive 500 challenge before New Years - that's riding 500km between Dec 23 and 31. It wasn't easy doing that in upstate NY, but the snow mostly held off this year and I was able to get enough 30 mile rides in on top of commuting. 4700 miles for 2011 and hoping to finally break 5000 this year!

Joe_h: Have you tried the training plans offered by MapMyRide? You may need to upgrade to a paid membership to access the plans. Also, Polar Personal Trainer has a number of training plans. Last I checked, they are free -- a side benefit to training with a Polar heart-rate monitor! If you have a Polar cyclocomputer, you may be able to benefit from their desktop training software as well.

Hi mike that's great, I have a garmin 500 its fantastic check out the facebook page I post my rides and it is on google earth, yea sponsored by Hammer and The heed drink is better for diabetic's power bars are great lots of carbs, I do about a half bar every 25miles, also I use perputum tablets 2 every 15miles and alot depends on your energy out put. I can control my BG. yep did a ride a few days ago finished 60mile in 3hrs 3000ft of climbing BG was 50 at the finish.

Oh, and for that 512grams of carbs, I bolused only 12 units, and set the basal to 25%. Total insulin for the day was 42 units.

Just did a 40 mile, very hilly by my standards, Bike MS ride. Rode for 2:31. Did some rough calculations on food intake before and during the ride, just about 2675 calories consumed. Which included 512 grams of carbs. Funny thing is that the ride burned 2646 calories. I don't think I could have done this ride without a CGM. CGM showed a 56 at the first rest stop, but I didn't feel it at all. A gatorade and powerbar, and I was off, hitting 42mph at one point!

But if any of you have a chance, check out the Elevation Profile:

Just ignore the incredibly high heart rates, I'm not an avid cyclist, I'm just a wannabe...
