????? Cold Medicine

I have been using the seven plus for about four months now and have had great results up until this weekend. I got ??? across the screen yesterday for about 2 hours and it cleared itself and went back to recording numbers. This morning I placed a new sensor as it was due and things appeared to be fine until the ???? have reappeared. This has now lasted about 4 hours with no change and still showing ??

I recall the nurse telling me that I could not use cold medicine for this will affect the usage of the seven plus. Yesterday morning I took tylenol cold and sinus and again this morning to try to fight off a cold. Could this be the cause for my problems??

Anything containing acetaminophen (e.g. Tylenol) can adversely affect the sensor and this may very well be the cause of the ???. I ran into the same probelm the same week I stated on my Dex 7 - it cleared once I discontnued the tylenol cotaining medicine. There has been a lot of discussion on this topic in this forum.

Yep, it's definately caused by the Tylenol (acetaminophen). I had to give up all tylenol products once I went on the Dex. I have had a bad cold for the past three days and have now switched to Alka Seltzer Cold Plus (also Cold Plus Nighttime) because it uses Aspirin instead ot Tylenol. Not quite as good IMHO but accpetable.

Once the acetaminophen works through your system, your Dex might come back. It's due to a chemical reaction as I understand it.

You took Tylenol... The chemistry that allows for the Dex to work has problems with acetaminophen/paracetamol. Your Dex will read sky high or just get confused.. Once it wears off it will drop back to your "normal" at the time..
