My 7+ plug broke. Does anyone know if I buy a usb ac adapter if the data cable will charge the dexcom?

My Dexcom always says it's out of range when using the USB plug in a computer, but maybe putting it on an adapter would change that. In theory, a USB cable might offer less power than a direct wall plug, so maybe that's the complication. If I remember, I'll try this out tonight though if no one else has already.

When my 7+ charger broke, the USB wouldn't work to charge the receiver either. In the end I had to call dexcom and get a replacement. Because the charger just stopped working, they sent me the replacement for free. Otherwise I think they'll sell you one.
I have an extra 7+ charger if Dexcom won't give you one for free.

do you still have the 7+ charger?
Mine is on its death bed!

I have a couple of extra, you can email me direct jmurphy@magsys.de and I will mail it to you

I remember testing this when I was traveling a lot, to try and save cables. The USB will NOT charge the battery, only the AC adapter unit will. And I also have an extra I can send you, looks like a bunch of other folks do as well.

I think there may be some confusion about the cables. There are two cables I am aware of - one is a wall plug and a Dexcom plug which obviously will charge the unit, the other is a USB plug and a Dexcom plug, which is what is needed to transfer data.

If I'm understanding the question, the OP is asking if the data cord can be used with a wall plug with a USB port to it. Since I have both the data cord and a wall/USB, I just tried this. The Dexcom did not light up, nor is it indicating that it is charging, so this does not appear to be a solution. My guess is that the 2 wires that control the power flow are simply missing or not connected inside the plug, as it was not inteded for charging.

A better solution for Dexcom would be to just send one cord that does both features, with a wall/USB charger. But they choose a more complicated option for who knows why...

This has changed for the G4 which uses a standard micro USB port. Unlike the 7+ which came with one proprietary USB data cable and one proprietary charger/cable combo the G4 comes with a single micro USB cable and a separate transformer that has a USB port. I haven't bothered to use either since I already had a micro USB phone charger on my desk, by my bed, and in my car. It can be charged from a computer. The charger that ships with it claims to provide 1.0A.

Saweet. Down with proprietary junk

Now that I am on G4, I have the following for anyone who wants them (for the cost of postage)

  • 3 Data Cables (2 never used, "mint in bag")
  • 2 Chargers
  • 2 soft (silicone?) cases
  • 1 black belt clip case with the safety loop

Brad - I will message you!
