Started on mine yesterday. Have been manually testing since DX 4 years ago. Barring the snafu with a bad initial sensor (failed after 5 hours it's been decent so far. Within 10 points of dual FS test on Freestyle and Accucheck.

My G4 has been sitting in my room for a while now since I'm waiting to meet with a trainer and rep. I'm really eager to just do it myself and get started with the DVD and user guide. How many of you have started the system on your own? Would you guys recommend waiting for my appointment date(another 2 weeks from today)or have you all found it to be straight forward. Just an FYI, this is my first CGM. Thanks

Woot! No training necessary. Plug in tgecreceiver for several hours to get it all juiced, then turn it on. Synch up the transmitter with the receiver per the instructions, then mount one of the transmitter holders on your body (I use my arms), start it up on the receiver and get rolling!

Just follow the printed set up guide and go for it.

The insertion of the sensor is a little tricky the first time but there's certainly plenty of videos around both on you tube and on Dexcom's site also. The insertion procedure is the same for Gen4 as the Seven Plus. Make sure you enter the transmitter ID into the receiver for Gen4.

A lot of people successfully self start on Dexcom because the instructions and tutorials are very good. Worst case scenario you waste a sensor. Depends on how much that risk is worth to you vs waiting two weeks.

I personally would not wait. The instructions are very straight forward. Plus, after using it for a week or two, you might have other questions for your rep.

I am a little disappointed with the G4. I was hoping I was going to get less ???, but alas on the very first sensor it happened. Dexcom is good about replacing them, but it is so frustrating. Also, I was alarmed that I was low at night when I really wasn't. Again I was hoping that would have been improved somehow, too. I don't like how much bigger it is on my body either and that the case needs to be opened to view. The positives would be the size of the receiver and the distance the signal can go.

I think I like the old one better the more I use this new one.

So, tell me. Has anybody tried the old attachments with the new sensor? I am curious if we can still use the old stuff from the closet or are those $400 worth of history?

Earlier in this thread it was noted there is no compatibility between the 7+ and G4.
