Dexcom Users

For users of a Dexcom Continuous Glucose Monitoring ("CGM") device

Just as a reminder with the recent release of the new Dexcom G4 to the US market--it is NOT okay to post about previous models or older sensors as being 'for sale' on this site.

It is a violation of the Terms of Use because it is a prescription device, and any such efforts will unfortunately be removed.

We encourage you to donate supplies to non-profits such as the Charles Ray III Diabetes Association (http://www.cr3diabetes.org), which accepts unexpired glucometer and insulin pump supplies, or alternatively you may talk to your physician's office or other local medical group to discuss donating them to those in need of assistance.

Thank you all for kindly refraining from this activity.

There's no reason to use change.org when we already have JDRF. Why use the JV team when the varsity team is available?

Thanks MikeO for the info. I downloaded and printed for future reference.

Maybe we need to start a drive or how about starting a campaign on change.org? Don't know if that really does change things but with so many "baby boomers" reaching retirement we really need this to change. I'm also on the Omnipod which they also refuse to cover. I think we need do have those who make the decisions live as a diabetic for just a week and see how it really is. I would hope that would change some minds.

I'm going to be on Medicare in March. And as far as I know, they still consider CGM's to be experimental. All I can say is that we need to get the big diabetes groups, especially ADA, JDRF (if they do what they said they would do, and start including adult advocacy), and AADE (American Association of Diabetes Educators) to advocate with Medicare for coverage. It's going to take a lot of screaming and yelling and community advocacy to do it. :-(

It seems that Medicare isn’t totally ready for all the type 1’s they’re getting. To be totally frank, we type 1’s didn’t used to live long enough to be on Medicare. Now there are a lot of type 1’s and the system doesn’t have the authority to cover innovations like CGM’s. It may take legislation to change that.

Still, it is possible to get an exception to the general rule on a case-by-case basis. See JDRF’s “how to” guide: http://www.artificialpancreasproject.com/about/medicare.html. If enough people get exceptions it will build momentum for changing the rules.

Please, let me know if you can get this done! It's ridiculous that when it comes time to retire I will ( as things stand now) not have either my pump or CGM covered. Rediculous. My CGM has saved me trips to the ER multiple times, it's more than paid for itself.

Hello ladies and gents, Iam currently a Dexcom 7 user and I am on Disability and on medicare. I would like to know how it is possible to get Medicare to cover the device and sensors.I amm currently out of sensors and I had two serious epasodes already of low blood sugars and didnot know that I was low. can someone please help me get them covered or tell me what to do about this? If someone would please call me and talk to me by phone I can give you my email address in which I can give you my phone number.

Actually Animas does have a single CGM/Pump. It's called the Animas Vibe. It has been available in Europe for over a year. A lot of us are anxiously awaiting the FDA to approve the Vibe for us in the USA. It uses the Dexcom G4 sensor in addition to the infusion set/cannula. The Dexcom G4 receiver and display is built into the pump. I too am tired of have multiple devices to lug around. When clipping them to my belt it's like have a tool belt on.

Last year I wrote that I stopped using my DEXCOM cgm when I got an Animas Ping. My reasons were that (1.) I can do a good job with the pump alone without using the CGM and (2.) I was (still am) of the opinion that the Animas company or DEXCOM should come up with a dual CGM/Pump system. rather than punching holes and carrying 2 hardware.
I thought its good for me to come back to the board and say that I have resumed using the CGM in addition to the pump. The reason is I couldn't control my BG as tight as it should be without the 2 systems working together. I would have preferred just wearing 1 system rather than 2, but it is what it is.
