I am a current college student and i take my diabetic alert dog Dutchess with me. I have had here since the August and she is doing so well so far. My issue is that i get people who come up to her and try to give her commands which she never listens too. Need some advice on how to deal with these people. Then there is the people i tell them not to pet who continue to pet her. My trainer told me not to have people pet her.

Hi - try checking out ada.gov (Americans with Disabilities Act) or deltasociety.org, if you haven't already done so. They will explain about this protocol. Good luck!

P.S. - try a site that sells service dog products and get a patch that states no petting (sitstay.com sells them).
If people try to talk to the dog or give her commands, ignore them and keep on walking.
If they try to pet the dog, Ignore them and kep going.
In time they will get the message.
Your university news media could do an article about service dogs to educate your collegeagues
