Moderation is a good idea for everyone, in all things. Many times, I downed a couple of sixpacks on Metformin and I'm still alive. But I wouldn't recommend it. If your kidneys and liver aren't top-notch, you might just become a Lactic Acidosis "statistic" (as in "dead"). If you have to drink, take your meds in the morning, set a limit in your mind before you start, and bring a friend with you so that you don't try to set a new record. If you can't manage that, try AA. It worked for me!

Everything in moderation. Even moderation.

A celebrity sighting at the Fremont Oktoberfest in Seattle last weekend.
When we bought tickets and got tokens for 10 beers, I thought I would pass out before reaching 10. Then I saw the size of the taster mug.

Doesn ayone else, still drink a ton and not have any problems? Granted , Im not a drunk but do like my coorslight. I never have elevated or lows when I drink a nice cold one. Does anyone know if drinking is that much worse dor a diabetic than for a non? I mean, other than the concerns over hyper or hypo is there any other concerns

Well it's that time of year! Oktoberfest and pumpkin brews. I'd imagine a lot of these beers are high in carbs. Anyone know how much some of the pumpkin beers have in them?

When it comes to any beer I always bolus for 12 carbs per. Pint , bear in mind I do not drink mass produced domestic beers but rather specialty brews which are typically a bit more on the grains and heavier on the content , a remindr that all of us consume and digest at various rates and our glucose is affected along those lines

Oh - I'm so glad to have found this area in Tudiabetes. Why did I not discover this earlier????

I love stinky cheese BTW, blue cheese is my fav!!!

I second what Erik says (except for the stinky cheese part.) There is nothing to be gained by overdoing it and passing out. I'm not even contemplating what happens to your control of your diabetes, this is just universal advice. If you have a great buzz going late in the evening and you want the party to continue, more is not better. Drink some water or something for awhile. Lord knows I didn't listen to anyone's advice when I turned 21 but I'll try and hope you listen to those who have been there.

Nothing good happens when you drink until you pass out. There are stories said about me to this day that are quite embarrassing that I don't remember due to over doing it... Trust me... Find a really good bottle of red wine, buy some nice (stinky) cheese, invite some friends over and drink just enough on your 21st to feel tipsy... You'll be FAR happier in the morning... (Drink a ton of water before you go to sleep to keep the AM headaches away).

Ok. Now I'm learning to live with my diabetes. Here's the kicker, I turn 21 in August 17. I had a plan to drink to my ass off. Drink till i passed out. Then I found out I'm a diabetic. How fun. :( So my drinking is now to a minimal on my bday. thats my sad 'I cant get drunk when i turn 21 thanks to Diabetes' story. I'm still going to drink, just not get messed up. haha
