Tx=Novolog... The only alcohol that affects me are the sweet wines (muscats, ports, etc)... I can generally get away with drinking two beers, glasses of wine, etc... Only rarely do I see the post-alcohol hypoglycemia that we are warned about. Perhaps the carbs in the drink offset it? I wonder if type Is and IIs behave differently in regards to alcohol due to our different treatment algorithms or if it is a person specific thing...

I just posted a blog on my page here - it was really a beer-related topic, I guess. It was hardly related to diabetes, actually. The lesson I learned from the little story is that I don't need to bolus for beer at a bar, but I should bolus for waitpersons who make me angry.

This is something I have not given up-and haven't found a reason to yet. Maybe because I'm still honeymooning, but I feel I have better control over alcohol than a lot of other things. And I keep all the Colorado breweries in business so I hope it stays this way :)

This site is absolutely awesome, I love beer and Tequila. Been a T2 for 3 years 1000MG Metformin twice a day, it affects me in different ways but so long as I have a good meal beforehand, I'm good, I just cant see football season with out beer! Drink lots of water.

Hey i posted this on my page but think it might be better off here:

Real world advice, Metformin and Beer.. And..

I have a host of issues im dealing with right now. I just started taking meds , Metformin 500MG a day and accupril. At this time in not ready to quit my drinking. I know i must but im trying to cope as hard as i can. I was drinking a LOT in the past 4 years and have been an every day drinker since i was 18.. Im now 35. I know i must stop. Im also sure i became T2 because of it. After i was told i was T2 in 2005 i tired the diet and execise thing but i lost track in a bad way.

So i have not drank in 7 days, this was the hard, i have a spinal injury that keeps me in constant pain.

Long crazy story short for now, I just cracked a light beer, i plan to drink 4 tall boy light beers. What sort of drama can i expect with the meds im on? Please be kind with me, im trying real hard and its not easy. I fully know all about the fact im out of control with beer.

I would just like to know the facts from people who have drank on these meds.

Thank you, and thank you all for understanding this delicate time for me.

is it possible that a fast acting insulin like novolog aids in the assimilation of alcohol into the body faster than normal?

Greg Comment by Greg on April 16, 2009 at 9:09pm
I agree with everything you say Mikey, but my friends must be real losers - cuz I can't get as drunk or more drunk as them. Not that I try anymore.
