Hopefully, this is all women because this is a question that embarass me. I have lost my medical insurance so I am waiting to call my doctor to discuss this. It is really great about helping me with everything, but I don't want to take advantage of him so that is why I am asking my fellow female diabetics. Do you experience vaginal dryness when your sugars are off? Of could it be my meds. I take byetta 10 cc twice a day and 1000mg metformin twice a day.

Don't be embarrassed! We're all here to talk about stuff that no one else gets!

I get frequent yeast infections. Even if my blood sugar is really high for one day, it's almost definite that a yeast infection will follow the next day. They went away when I got my blood sugar in better control. I think it is related to high blood sugar rather than a specific medication, but I am not familiar with Byetta or Metformin.

Hopefully it goes away with improved blood sugar control... (not that that is always easy!). Take care!
Pre-diagnosis, I had major dryness. It's normal if your sugars are out of whack. As is yeast infections if you get too high.
You know what now that I think about it I havent had as much dryness since I have been diagnosed and started to get my sugars under control. It could definitely be just because of the diabetes. My doc told me that most of my problems are due to my diabetes for example the frequent yeast infections, dryness, irregular periods and even decreased libido :(. All that fun stuff. Luckily for me I have noticed I dont suffer from those things as much since my numbers are going down!
if my blood sugars are high for 3 or more hours, its guaranteed im going to be dry and almost positive ill have a yeast infection. both usually go away when i get back under control.

until they get under control, i keep the skin from becoming too dry by applying a teeny weeny tiny bit of lube, astroglide to e specific. it says on the label to help care for dryness and it works, but just dont apply too much. at the most, the drop the size of half an m&m.

hope that helps
I know from taking Metformin and Glipizide (Glucophage) for years, that the drugs can dry everything out. All the juices in your body dry out. The lubrication was a good suggestion and drink lots of liquids.

On the subject of yeast infections....can you have one and not know it? No discharge, pain or itchy feeling, for example. Anyone know?

Thanks in advance!
If it doesn't seem in any way like standard yeast, head to the doctor. Might be a bacterial infection-and believe me, the yeast meds don't work for that.
I have a problems with yeast infections. I don't have so much a problem with dryness. Though I don't always have a sex drive when my husband wants it. The only time I seem to really want it is if I'm in a manic episode or manic-depressive episode. I'm also bipolar.
Cherise, are you my long lost twin? If I even think about eating a Snickers bar I can get a yeast infection. And heaven forbid if I get sick enough that I have to take antibiotics....can I have a wire brush please? I'm also bipolar.

I've found two things that help me with yeast infections. I take a probiotic every day. It helps maintain the ph levels in our bodies. Since I've been taking them, I've only had one in six months. You can find them in the vitamin aisle at your local drug store. When an infection does begin I take AZO Yeast. It's all natural. You can take up to 6 or 8 per day. You can also find this at your local Walgreens right next to the yeast infection treatments and condoms.....which has always made me laugh. Why in the hell would we want to have sex when we're itching like a banchee?!
Before I was diagnosed, I would have 6 month yeast infections. A symptom, who knew? Apparently not my gyno.! Now I'm almost 48,I have dryness, but seem to be in menopause AND on metformin, so who knows? I use an OTC called Replens once a week and it's made a huge difference. Not drippy, either.

Janet, Type 2 for 1 year, 1 month, and 25 days..but who's counting?
If it wasn't for the yeast infection, i wouldn't have never known I was a diabetic. I haven't had a Yeast Infection since 2004 but I think it is because I gained control og my Bg's
Been there. There's also something called moisture pearls or something, it's a little lube-fulled gelatin capsule, you just pop it up there and you're ready for action. Ooh, but also try flavored lubes. Most of them do not contain any sugar (even the porn industry gets it, I guess!), and makes things a bit more fun. Good luck!
I have dryness when my numbers are high
